Directions: Answer the following problem-solving questions. Show your solution and organize it
according to the arrangement of the questions. Put a box on your final answer. Write you solution
in a clean sheet of paper.

1. Two cubic meter of water at room temperature has a weight of 19,600 N at a location where 𝑔
= 9.80 𝑚 𝑠 2 ⁄ . Find it's specific weight ad its density at a location where 9.66 𝑚 𝑠 2 ⁄ . (10
points)

2.The temperature of a solution is 28 ℃. Convert this temperature to absolute Fahrenheit, °𝑅. (5

points)
3. Atmospheric pressure is 14.7 𝑙𝑏𝑓 𝑖𝑛2 ⁄ (101.3 kPa). Determine the absolute pressure in a tank if
a gauge on the tank reads 6.5 𝑙𝑏𝑓 𝑖𝑛2 ⁄ (45 kPa) vacuum. Express your answer in kPa and 7 𝑙𝑏𝑓 𝑖𝑛2 ⁄ .
(10 points)

4. A vessel is initially connected to a reservoir open to the atmosphere. The connecting valve is
then closed, and a vacuum of 54.9 kPa is applied to the vessel. Assume standard atmosphere
pressure. Determine the absolute pressure in the vessel. (5 points)

5. Determine the pressure of water in a pipe if the water seeks a level at height h = 10 ft. (5
points)

6. A pressure of 42 kPa is measured 2.8 m below the surface of an unknown liquid. Determine
the specific gravity of the liquid. (5 points)

7. Convert vacuum pressure of 110 mm Hg into absolute pressure in meters of water if the
atmospheric pressure is10.33 meters of water SG of Hg =13.6. (5 points)
8. 10 bars is equal to how many MPa? Show the conversion process. (5 points)

9. A 15 cm diameter piston was uniformly applied by a force of 1200 N. Find the pressure on the
piston

10. Find the density, specific weight, mass, and weight of a body that occupies 300 𝑓𝑡3 if its specific
volume is 15 𝑓𝑡3 /𝑙𝑏𝑚. (5 points)
