Task 1 6.0
The given tables illustrate the population and distribution of the
whole world from 1950 to 2000 and provide projections for 2050.
Overall, it is clear that the world population followed an upward
trend while the distribution of the world from most areas was
unstable throughout the period.
The population of the world rose remarkably from 1950 to 2000, and
it is estimated to increase up to 9.0 billion in 2050. In addition, Asia's
distribution consistently ranked first which occupied over half of the
world's total distribution. It was standing at 56% in 1950 and
increased to 60% in 2000 with the prediction that would remain
stable to 2050.
Both Europe and North America decreased throughout this period
and vice versa in Africa and Latin America. The figure for
Europe's distribution witnessed a twofold decrease from 22% in 1950
to 12% in 2000, and it is predicted to drop to 7% in 2050. The
distribution of North America experienced a gradual decrease from
7% to 5% in 2000, with a projection for 2050 is 4%. In contrast,
Africa and Latin America had a slight increase of 3% from 6% and 4%
from 9% in 2000. Both of these areas are predicted to stay
unchanged in 2050. Oceania is the one that had the least
contribution with under 1% in 1950 And reached 1% in 2000 and its
prediction figure is still unchanged in 2050.

Task 2 6.0 (~5.5)

Some people said that the exploration and development of safe
alternatives to conventional energy sources should be the most
important global preference today. From my perspective, I strongly
agree with this opinion because it will bring lots of benefits in the
long run.

On the one hand, the change towards using alternative types of

energy would probably put a heavy financial burden on the
government and companies as they will have to invest a huge amount
of money in purchasing and developing new equipment and facilities
for harnessing solar energy, or hydroelectric power. In addition, the
production cost of solar panels is still very high to reach the energy
requirements even in wealthy countries. Consequently, many
countries, especially those with a poor economy, are still unable to
use this power source. –TR + LR

Despite several disadvantages above, I still believe that shifting

towards using alternative energy is a worthwhile investment due to
the greater benefits it brings. Firstly, fossil fuels are the main cause
of air pollution nowadays since petroleum-powered vehicles and
factories are releasing daily tremendous amounts of CO2 into the
environment. Thus, generating renewable energy will reduce the
emissions in the atmosphere and improve air quality. Secondly, the
most important impact is the safety concerns and sustainable energy
seems to be safer than conventional energy -GRA. For instance, an
incident of the explosion of nuclear plants in Japan –CC – GRA caused
poisonous and radioactive emissions, which not only killed people but
also left a legacy of cancer deaths in the future.

In conclusion, despite the high initial cost of new equipment and

facilities, the switch from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources is
essential for the long-term development of our planet.
