“Building a startup is like climbing Mt. Everest…first you have to

get to basecamp”

1
Welcome to Capria VentureBasecamp!
We’re excited to have you join us! This document provides some logistical/ housekeeping items to
consider as we move into the intensive workshop, including the draft day-by-day agenda.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do reach out to the Capria
VentureBasecamp Team.

What to Expect from the Intensive

Capria VentureBasecamp is not your typical program. Our purpose is to deliver the training, tools,
and resources to empower key stakeholders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, such as our partner
incubators, accelerators and funds. We will be introducing you to key methodologies and
frameworks centered around the goal of helping entrepreneurs build the next generation of
investable startups. Expect immersive, engaging sessions throughout the 5 days.
During the intensive, you will be introduced to the core methodology for developing structured
programs of support for startups, and following the intensive, we will be working with our partners
to actually implement and utilize these frameworks in their entrepreneurial training initiatives.
Much of the content that we are developing for the training program will be readily available for
your entrepreneurs through the VentureBasecamp Platform, set to launch after the intensive.

For those eagerly awaiting the Slack community, we will be launching that together on day one!

Agenda by Day
Be ready for a deep-dive into the Capria VentureBasecamp program! Over the past few years,
we’ve been working in the global ecosystem to understand what makes the best funds, incubators
and accelerators tick. The 5-day intensive workshop kicks things off in full force: expect to get out
of your seats, engage with the VentureBasecamp team, the other partners, brainstorm, debate and
immerse yourself in the process.
Each day will begin at 9AM––Please be on time! We will happily provide you with a morning cup
of chai or coffee to make sure you are ready to hit the ground running.

Day One – Thinking Like an Investor

Wednesday September 26th, 2018
The intensive starts with the final question we wish to address –– What is an investable
startup? You will be introduced to the VentureBasecamp Critical Success Elements of Investable
Startups, the concept of "investability DNA", the investment process, tools investors use to
evaluate startups, and real-world cases of IC memos and investment decisions.

Day Two – Moving the Needle on Investability

Thursday September 27th, 2018
With a stronger understanding of investability and a foundation of how to 'think like an investor',
the intensive shifts its focus towards how to support startups in their growth towards investability.
Day two covers core global best practices for process-based incubation and acceleration,
introduces partners to the Critical Success Elements for Support Intermediaries, and begins to pull
apart the entrepreneur’s experience journey through your program. We also introduce you to the
VentureBasecamp Quantum Assessment tool that can help you with the selection process.

Pure replication of incubation/acceleration models from Silicon Valley has not generated the same
quality of results in emerging markets. By separating the magic from the science of
incubation/acceleration, process-driven models are evolving to bridge this gap in entrepreneurial
support. Day three breaks down the key processes and milestones of high-quality entrepreneurial
support programs and provides the tools, frameworks, and structures for developing your own
programs and processes aligned with quality output.

The incubator manager, or Head Sherpa, is a crucial ally for an entrepreneur in their startup
journey. Capria VentureBasecamp provides the frameworks and workshop guides that Head
Sherpas can use with their entrepreneurs to ensure real progress. Day four focuses on how to
create strong, efficient processes of engagement between entrepreneurs, Head Sherpas, mentors
and other stakeholders in the program.

FAREWELLS!

Participation
We are giving you our full, undivided attention and we are asking for yours too! The intensive is going
to be exactly that –– intense.
Each team should have at minimum 2 team members attending for at least the first two days, unless
otherwise discussed with the VentureBasecamp Team. Please confirm your team members attending
via the email that Alex sent out with this packet.
We understand that you are very busy managing your organizations, but please do not schedule

them prior to the beginning sessions, during lunch or after the evening sessions.
We are more than happy to allow you to use the event space prior to the Intensive sessions starting in

Getting Around, Food & Dining
Bangalore traffic is notoriously bad. Fortunately, we’ve made made sure that everything in terms of
hotel stay and dinners are within walking distance. The closest neighbourhood to the venue is
called Indiranagar, which is a happening part of town––there are plenty of restaurants and pubs to
head to after the intensive sessions for the day.
The best option for commuting around town would be via Uber, Ola or Rickshaw.

Key Locations
We’ve put together a list of key locations, including the venue location, hotels, recommended
restaurants, cafés and pubs.

Check it out here:

Getting from the Airport

Getting from the airport to your hotel is simple, especially if you use Uber or Ola. To find the Uber
pickup area, as you leave the airport arrivals area, look for the Krispy Kreme doughnut stand, and
walk past the blue-coloured construction barriers. You will see a Cafe Coffee Day past the blue-
coloured barriers; there will be an Uber sign to the right of the Cafe Coffee Day. Additionally, you
can also take an airport taxi. As you leave the arrivals area, head directly left, and towards the last
food stand. You will find the Airport Taxi service there.

If you need access to the Wi-Fi and you do not have an Indian SIM, please see the information
desk at the airport, and they should be able to provide you with an OTP to access the internet if you
need to book a cab.

Recommendation for international travellers: Keep your hotel information available, as well as a
snapshot/printout of google maps to show your driver. If you are staying at Bloomrooms, tell them
you are going to 100ft Road, Indiranagar.

If you land and need help, please reach out to us! Our contact information is on the last page of this
document.

It should take approximately 1 hour 5 minutes to get from the airport to Indiranagar. Please find the
hotel locations on the map in Key Locations above.

The Venue
Please find the Google Map link with the tagged location in the previous Key Locations section.
When you get to Thought Factory, please go to Tower D, second floor. You will find Thought
Factory and The VentureBasecamp Team through there.

Security should let you through without having to sign in––we will be giving them your names prior
to the event.

Be prepared to cross a busy road! See annotated map on the next page.

Weather
The weather in Bangalore is typically pleasant year round––warm in the afternoons, and cool in the
mornings and evenings. September is a bit of a wet month, though any rainy spells should not last for
more than an hour at a time.
Be prepared for bad traffic when it rains, though!

prepared for an immersive 5 days with the VentureBasecamp team––we have a lot to cover
with you.
We will be providing the workshop resources required, as well as notebooks for you to keep,
and chai and snacks to keep you awake. The room will be equipped with:
• Tables and Chairs
• Wi-Fi

• Flipcharts & markers
• LCD projector
Partners will be responsible for bringing their laptops and mobile devices for their
personal use. We will have access to the internet at the venue, though we ask that you
