The model should allow the user to specify a start and end Month for which the Chart should be created.
As best practice, ensure data validation checks.

Function/Functionality What does it do?
Excel has a variety of text functions that can be used to manipulate large amounts of data quickly and efficiently
LEN Returns the number of characters in a text string
COUNTIF(cell range you are looking in,criteria - value; cell reference - you are
looking for)
SUMIF(cell range you are looking in,criteria - value; cell reference - you are
looking for,Sum_range; the actual cells to add if their corresponding cells in
range match criteria)
MID(text string ,the position of the first character you want to extract in
text, specifies the number of characters you want MID to return from text)
ROUNDUP(any real number that you want rounded up,the number of digits to
which you want to round number)/ ROUNDOWN(any real number that you
want rounded down, the number of digits to which you want to round number)
RANK(number whose rank you want to find,is an array of, or a reference to, a
list of numbers,is a number specifying how to rank number)
-Copy the cells of interest
-Place the cursor where you want to past the information
-Select Edit : Paste Special from the menu bar
-Select the appropriate options from the dialog box that appears
Goto Tools > Pivot Table and Pivot Chart Report >…
Activate the Pivot Table Toolbar on your Excel Window > Goto Formulas in the
Pivot Table drop down menu > Select Calculated Fields
Click into your table or better mark the data area and select Data: Filter:
Autofilter
Using the drop-down boxes per item allows you to display only specific filtered
information
Selecting multiple matches (up to 3 maximum with autofilter) you can narrow
down your search
Or add your own criteria for filtering by clicking on the custom criteria
To insert subtotals, you first sort your list so that the rows you want to subtotal
are grouped together.
Goto Data > Subtotals >…
Array Form:
INDEX(array we are looking in,row number from which value is required, column
number from which value is required)
Reference Form:
INDEX(reference - one of more cell ranges, row number from which value is
required, column number from which value is required, area num)
COUNTIF(cell range you are looking in,criteria - value; cell reference - you are
looking for)
To count entries using mathematical operators, use "<32" in the <criteria> parameter
field, to count the number of values in the range <32
Wildcard Usage: COUNTIF(C2:C40,"*te") will tell you how many words end with "te"
To sum entries using mathematical operators, criteria can be expressed as 32, "32",
">32", or "apples"
If start_num is greater than the length of text, MID returns "" (empty text)
If start_num is less than the length of text, but start_num plus num_chars exceeds the
length of text, MID returns the characters up to the end of text
If start_num is less than 1, MID returns the #VALUE! error value
If num_chars is negative, MID returns the #VALUE! error value
Convenient to use on text imported from other applications that may have irregular
spacing
If num_digits is greater than 0 (zero), then number is rounded down to the specified
number of decimal places
If num_digits is 0, then number is rounded down to the nearest integer
If num_digits is less than 0, then number is rounded down to the left of the decimal
point
RANK gives duplicate numbers the same rank. However, the presence of duplicate
numbers affects the ranks of subsequent numbers. For eg, in a list of integers sorted in
ascending order, if the number 10 appears twice and has a rank of 5, then 11 would
have a rank of 7 (no number would have a rank of 6).
Saves you lots of time
-Retyping formulas
-Converts formulas into values
-Reformatting cells
-Transposing cells (i.e., convert row-entered data blocks into column-entered ones)
Microsoft Office List or Database: Use a dataset in Excel to generate a pivot report or
chart
External Datasource: Browse your Desktop to use a dataset in a different workbook, a
query / table from Access or other external applications
Multiple Consolidation Ranges: If you have data in different sheets and have a logical
reason to combine them, use this option to consolidate them and get all the fields and
records from these datasets
It is helpful in situations where you have a huge pile of data and quickly want to find
some specific information, e.g. all sets that meet a criteria or the top 10 items etc.
Type of Match:
0, False : Gives an exact match
1, True : Gives an approximate or exact match (be sure to sort your data in ascenfding
order before trying this)
Type of Match:
0, False : Gives an exact match
1, True : Gives an approximate or exact match (be sure to sort your data in ascenfding
order before trying this)
Warning: Must Sort the Lookup row or column in ascending order before using Lookup.
If an exact match is not found, the largest value less than or equal to the closest match
to the lookup value is returned
Match Type Options:
1 : largest value that is less than or equal to lookup_value.
-1: smallest value that is larger than or equal to lookup_value
0 : exact match
* For options 1, -1, array must be in ascending order
Height, width are optional parameters. Use these to extract an array rather than a cell.
* Look in Section "Array Functions" for assistance
Use this when you simply want to find a value in an array given the row and column
numbers relative to the array
Use this when you want to refer to multiple cells (adjacent / non adjacent) and
dynamically define which reference to use for a particular operation.
Example for defining multiple cell ranges:
"=INDEX((C2:D10,C12:D14),row_num,col_num,1)
To count entries using mathematical operators, use "<32" in the <criteria> parameter
field, to count the number of values in the range <32
Wildcard Usage: COUNTIF(C2:C40,"*te") will tell you how many words end with "te"
Use conditional statement inside a sum / count / average etc function to make use of
the operation using multiple criteria
eg, ={SUM(IF(A1:A40<20,B1:B40,0)} will give you the sum of all cells in range B1:B40
for which the corresponding value in range A1:A
