Figure 1.1 In this example of Theorem 1.2, the event space is B = {B1 , B2 , B3 , B4 } and Ci =

The concept of an event space is useful because it allows us to express any event as a union
of mutually exclusive events. We will observe in the next section that the entire theory of

• Flip four coins: 10 kuruş, 25 kuruş, 50 kuruş and 1 TL.
• Examine the coins in order and observe whether each coin shows a
head (h) or a tail (t).
• Recall that 𝐵$ = {outcomes with 𝑖 heads}
and 𝐵 = {𝐵(, 𝐵&, 𝐵#, 𝐵', 𝐵)} is an event space.
• Let 𝐴 = {𝑡𝑡𝑡𝑡, ℎ𝑡𝑡𝑡, 𝑡ℎ𝑡𝑡, 𝑡𝑡ℎ𝑡, 𝑡𝑡𝑡ℎ, ℎℎ𝑡𝑡, ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑡, ℎ𝑡𝑡ℎ, 𝑡𝑡ℎℎ, 𝑡ℎ𝑡ℎ, 𝑡ℎℎ𝑡}
• Theorem 1.2 states that
𝐴 = 𝐴 ∩ 𝐵( ∪ 𝐴 ∩ 𝐵& ∪ 𝐴 ∩ 𝐵# ∪ 𝐴 ∩ 𝐵' ∪ 𝐴 ∩ 𝐵)
