Pre-Enrolment Information
Client Selection, enrolment and induction Procedures
Trainees will be individually interviewed and assessed on their eligibility for the service being
provided. Selection will comply with equal opportunity legislation. Trainees will not be denied access
to services where they are deemed eligible for such a service and where the organisation has the
appropriate resources to provide high quality services. An enrolment and induction program is
provided to all trainees entering training. An introductory interview will be held with the interested
applicant to discuss entry requirements, and enrolment procedures.
Course information
Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre will provide specific information to all trainees
before enrolment detailing the core and elective unit for each qualification, the name of each unit
and the desired outcome of each, including vocational outcomes.
Fees, charges and Refunds
Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre Course fees and charges vary according to the type
of training being undertaken.

Refunds will be made in the following circumstances


- Overpayment of any tuition/administration fee
- The course is cancelled by Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre
- The learner advises Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre in writing , prior to the training
commencement that they are withdrawing and returns all training materials previously issued
complete, intact and unused
- If in Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre ’s opinion the learner would be unreasonably
disadvantaged if not granted a refund
- No refund is payable to participants who withdraw or are terminated before completing the course.

Provision for Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment
For training that requires a particular level of literacy, numeric or other entry skills, an assessment
will be undertaken by a Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre trainer who has special
skills in this area. The assessment will help to establish entry to a course/training program or to
employment and will help identify where special training and support resources can be utilised
during the program.

Client Support
All Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre trainers/assessors will make themselves
available to trainees via phone/fax and email as well as conduct onsite visits. They will also liaise
between the trainee and external organisations such as Department of Education and Training and
the New Apprenticeship Centre. Trainers/assessors will also work with the employer and DET to
make accessible any specialised equipment or support deemed necessary for a trainee to undertake
their training and assessment.

Flexible Learning & Assessment


Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre are committed to offering flexible learning and
assessment procedures that best suit the needs of the trainee and take into account any barriers to
learning or special needs that arise as the result of a specific disadvantage or physical or mental
disability.

Welfare and Guidance Services


Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre endeavours to provide welfare and guidance to all
students/clients. Trainers/assessors will work with the trainee to identify any special needs that may
exist, and provide support and advice on how to address these needs and, where required, direct
trainees to relevant support networks and provide advice on how to access these external support
networks including access to external tutors, counselling services and welfare agencies.

Appeals and complaints procedures


Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre have a grievance/complaints procedure aimed at
resolving any issues you may have in relation to your training program. If you are not happy with
the results of any part of your training program you may follow the steps set out in the Bankstown
Education and Skills Training Centre grievance/complaints procedure as outline in the student
handbook

Disciplinary Procedures
When undertaking training trainees must make every effort to acquire the skills and knowledge
required to successfully complete their traineeship by accepting instruction and training given by
and on behalf of the employer in the workplace and by completing assignments and other
assessment tasks set out by Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre. If dysfunctional or
disruptive behaviour is displayed, a meeting between the trainee and the trainer will be held to
discuss the trainees progress, a plan of improvement will be discussed and developed. The trainee
will be asked to sign the improvement plan and a report will made to the employer. The trainee’s
progress will be reviewed within an agreed timeframe, and if no improvement is noted then
Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre will consider terminating the training agreement.

Staff Responsibilities for Access and Equity Issues


Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre trainers/assessors are committed to policies of
Access and Equity. Staffs are committed to making learning accessible to all people as well as to
providing an external framework of support to all trainees where necessary. Bankstown Education
and Skills Training Centre’s General Manager will ensure all staff act in accordance with our Code of
Practice and all students/clients are made aware of their rights.

Recognition of Prior Learning and Recognition of Current Competencies


Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre recognises prior and current competencies. This will
be discussed at the induction and preparation of the training plan. A form and recogntion kit
relevent to the units for which recogntion is being sought is available for this process and will be
offered at the induction session. For those trainees seeking recognition support, assistance will be
provided by a Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre assessor as needed. A timeframe for
the completion of the RPL process will be agreeed upon.
Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre also recognises nationally accredited
qualifications and statements of attainment issued by any other RTO, provided that a
copy of the previously awarded certificate or statement of attainment is provided to and
verified by Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre with the issuing RTO.

Smart and Skills Customer Protection Policy


Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre has a Customer Protection Policy in place as
contractually required under Smart and Skilled. This includes the current Complaints and Grievances
Policy which can be found in the student handbook and the following procedure:
Procedure:
Every attempt will be made to resolve any student complaints using the Bankstown Education and
Skills Training Centre Grievance and Complaints Policy.

Any complaint or grievance will be actioned as part of our commitment to Continuous Improvement.
On notification of a complaint or grievance procedures will be followed as per the Complaint and
Grievance Policy.

The General Manager will be the designated Customer Protection Officer. Their role will be to handle
all complaints and grievances and to ensure Consumer Protection contractual compliance with the
Smart and Skilled Guidelines.
