GUIDELINE FOR COMPREHENSIVE CASE 1

BKAR3053 FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING AND REPORTING V A221

The details of the project are as follows:

1. Form a group of 5 members. Each group is required to prepare report and present one of the
following:

 One accounting standard/exposure draft/technical release/discussion paper (local or


international), or
 One Islamic accounting standard/exposure draft/technical release/discussion paper (local
or international), or

2. The report and presentation should include the following information (let say a group selects
MFRS 101: Presentation of Financial Statements):

(a) Table of content


(b) Summary of the selection in (1) (e.g. Summary of MFRS 101)
(c) Any three theories that explain the development/formulation of the selection in (1)
(e.g. How normative, positive and regulatory theories relevant to explain the
development/formulation of MFRS 101)
(d) The main parties that involved in development/formulation of the selection in (1)
(e.g. The role of industry players, academia and professional bodies in the
development/formulation of MFRS 101)
(e) Nature of the selection in (1) whether principles-based or rules-based accounting
(e.g. Evaluation whether MFRS 101 is principles-based or rules-based accounting
standard)
(f) Limitations of the selection in (1) (e.g. MFRS 101 too wordy, complicated and
difficult to understand)
(g) Suggestions or recommendations to overcome the limitations as discussed in (g) (e.g.
Revise MFRS 101 in terms of words and language used/More practical trainings to
accountants on application of MFRS 101)
(h) References APA Style

3. The report should not exceed 20 pages (excluding cover page, TOC, references, appendix),
font Times New Roman 12 and 1.5 spacing.

4. Each group is allocated 25 minutes to present the assignment and 5 minutes for questions and
answers. (Please change this according to your teaching plan).

5. The case will be graded as follows:

The case report will be evaluated using Report Writing Rubric, while the presentation will be
evaluated based on Presentation Rubric.
6. The Turnitin similarity index for your report should be 40% and below.

7. The report should be submitted by 29/11/2022, Tuesday through UUM Online Learning
Portal.
