EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The South East Central Railway (abbreviated SECR) is one of the 19 Railway zones
in India. The zone office is headquartered at Bilaspur and comprises the Bilaspur,
Nagpur and Raipur division. I have done my training at Raipur division where I
witnessed and performed various work at Raipur railway station.

The internship report stresses on the work experience I have gathered during
training at SECR. This was a 30 days training during which I gained a lot of
practical and field knowledge. It provided insight into various aspects of
construction and how things run at the site. In this report, I mainly have
incorporated my experience at SECR especially campaign management, research
and development work etc.

I witnessed the construction of RUB at km.825/21-23 in lieu of manned level

crossing No.416 between Urkara-Raipur sections in Howrah-Mumbai Main Line.
(By Cut & Cover method), extension of line no. 7 with construction of full length
passenger platform and connectivity to down line at Raipur station of Raipur
division, provision orf 6meter wide foot over bridge with ramp (4 nos) at Raipur
division, construction of JCO Mess for RPF at Raipur and visited water filter plant
at WRS colony.

OVERVIEW OF SECR
The South East Central Railway (abbreviated SECR) is one of the 19 Railway zones
in India. The zone office is headquartered at Bilaspur and comprises the Bilaspur,
Nagpur and Raipur division.

This Zone was formerly part of the South Eastern Railway. It was inaugurated on
20 September 1998 and dedicated to the nation on 1 April 2003.

South East Central Railway shall provide efficient, affordable, customer-focused

and environmentally sustainable integrated transportation solutions. It shall be a
vehicle of inclusive growth, connecting regions, communities, ports and centers of
industry, commerce, tourism and pilgrimage across the country. The reach and
access of its services will be continuously expanded and improved by its
integrated team of committed, empowered and satisfied employees and by use of
cutting-edge technology.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

Theory is an inherent part of how we interpret and understand the world around
us. While practical knowledge pays more on skill education, i.e., "how to do"
ability.

We have benefited much from the idea of the whole process of Water treatment
plant i.e., screening, sedimentation, aeriation, filtration etc. that we have learned
about in our academic studies. While watching the plant, we were more able to
relate to it. Additionally, when we visited the Foot over bridge construction site,
Concrete Technology, Structure design and Engineering drawing assisted us in
better understanding the material, its testing, reading of structure drawing and
mix design. There, we learned to operate the concrete mixer machine digitally to
get specific mix design and arrangement of structure, there welding, joints. The
Cut and cover method in construction of RUB was very new thing for me where
the load distribution was used in its construction, that was the most thrilling thing
we had seen during the training time. In the construction of JCO mess for RPF we
had seen the isolate and combine footing, there structure and curing, where
20mm dia bars are used for maximum strength. Since we already had some
understanding of RCC and Structure design, this information aided in our practical
comprehension of it.

Good theoretical foundation has shortened our practical knowledge study period
and strengthen our understanding of practical knowledge rational. Without
theoretical knowledge as the base, practical knowledge has no potential to
sustain.
CONCLUSION

As an undergraduate, I would like to say that this training program was an

excellent opportunity for me to get to the groud level and experience the things
that we would have never gained through going straight into a job. I am grateful
to my college for giving me this wonderful opportunity.

The main objective of the industrial training is to provide an opportunity to

undergraduates to identify, observe and practice how engineering is applicable in
the real industry. It is not only to gain experience on technical practices but also
to observe management practices and to interact with people.

It is easy to work with machines than with people. The only chance that an
undergraduate has to have this experience is the industrial training period. I feel I
got the maximum out of that experience. Also I learnt the way of work in an
organization, the importance of being punctual, the importance of maximum
commitment and the importance of team spirit.

The training program at SECR having different work was a lot more useful than
studying at one place. In my opinion I have gained lots of knowledge and
experience needed to be successful I a great engineering challenge, as in my
opinion, Engineering is after all a challenge and not a job.
RECOMMENDATION

First of all, training gives us a taste of how firms work, what they expect from
their employees and the prevailing work culture. During this period, we got to
appreciate the practical application of concepts learnt in class. Also, this training
shaped our work ethics and helped us get first-hand knowledge of the field.

The availability of mentors who have given their time to make us understand
everything about the SECR, preliminary works to be done and construction
methodologies to develop an efficient bridge despite of their busy schedule.

So, overall, our experience has taught us to be realistic, gather as much

knowledge as possible and have fun along the way. In conclusion, we can say that
this has benefitted us immensely by helping us form expectations of our career.

SECR has an amazing work culture. This training in SECR helped us to gather
knowledge of field, bettered our professionalism and communication skills. So, at
last we recommend you be sound in your theoretical concepts and get field
exposure in leading corporate companies like SECR.
