Rules for Joining Forum Discussion

DISCUSSION FORUM – Electronic message boards for asynchronous communication, also commonly
referred to as WEB Forums, message boards, discussion boards, discussion groups and bulletin
boards.

CHAT – A real time conversation between two or more people over the internet or another com-
puter network.

Common Features of Forum

A Private message, or PM for short, is a message sent in private from a member to one or more
members.

Most forums implement an opinion poll system for threads.

Guidelines in Using Chat or Discussion

1. Before posting your question to a discussion board, check if anyone has asked it already and
received a reply.
2. Stay on topic.
3. Don’t type in ALL CAPS!
4. Don’t write anything that sounds angry or sarcastic, even as a joke.
5. Always remember to say “Please” and “Thank you”
6. Respect the opinions of your classmates.
7. If you reply to a question from a classmate, make sure your answer is accurate.
8. Don’t badmouth others.
9. If you refer to something your classmate said earlier in the discussion, quote just a few key
lines from their post.
10. Before asking a question, check the class FAQs.

INPUT- It is a piece of equipment used to provide data and control signals.

PROCESS- It is a piece of equipment that processes the information.


Example: CPU

OUTPUT- Is any piece of computer hardware equipment which converts information into human-
readable form or it displays the result.
Example: Monitor, printer

STORAGE- After the data have been processed, the data are stored in different storage devices avail-
able and ready to be used again “if” required by the process.

What is an operating system?


- It is the most important software that runs on a computer.
- It manages the computer’s memory and processes as well as all of its software and hardware.
- It usually come pre-loaded on any computer you buy.

Graphical User Interface GUI


- Lets you use your mouse to click icons, buttons, and menus and everything is clearly dis-
played on the screen using a combination of Graphics and text.
