The author concluded that literary criticism can be daunting because it requires to quote
relevant evidence from the literary text, provide personal interpretation and critical argument,
and apply literary theories to support their stand and not to mention write it within a
disciplined form.

The students were taught to acquire lexica-grammatical and rhetorical features of literary
criticism before being asked to compose essays on their own. Meaning, they must acquire
grammar, register and lexical properties in their text. Their text must also be able to persuade

I can infer at the paragraph that Malaysians should teach students to comprehend a literary
text and focusing on the facts rather than sharing opinions and have their own interpretation.
Because this is not the case the Malaysians struggle to analyze and have poor competence in
the English language.
4. How did the author conclude the article?
The author concluded the article by stating the pans and objectives of the study to solve the
problem. One of the potential methods is to move to TLC genre based writing instruction.
