Exercise 1: (4 points) Power Associated with a Samsung Charger

Document -1- represents the data instruction sheet of a Sumsung charger.
Indicate whether each of the following statements is true or false,
then correct the false statement.
1. The signal associated with the output voltage is an 𝑨𝑪 signal.
2. The maximum input voltage is 𝟐𝟐𝟎𝑽.
3. The 𝑫𝑪 power delivered by the charger is 𝟑𝟑 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒕.
4. The charger is used for 𝟑𝟎 𝒅𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒑𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉 at an average of 𝟕 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔 daily.
a. The energy consumed by the charger in one day is 𝟐𝟑𝟏 𝑾𝒉𝒓.
b. Knowing that the average price of 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒌𝒘𝒉𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝟐𝟎𝟎 𝑳. 𝑳., the monthly cost
corresponding to the charger is 𝟏𝟑𝟖𝟔𝟎 𝑳. 𝑳.
Exercise 2: (6 points) Resistors

Consider three resistors 𝑹𝟏 = 𝟐𝟎 𝜴 ; 𝑹𝟐 = 𝟑𝟎 𝜴 and 𝑹𝟑 = 𝟖𝜴 connected to a dry cell, as

shown in document 2. The circuit is fed by a direct voltage: 𝑼𝑷𝑵 = 𝟔 𝑽.
1. Calculate 𝑹’ the equivalent resistance between 𝑨 and 𝑩, then 𝑹𝒆 equivalent to all the
circuit.
2. Deduce the current 𝑰 delivered by the generator.
3. Calculate the voltage UAB, then find the current 𝑰𝟏 passing through 𝑹𝟏 .
4. Deduce the current 𝑰𝟐 passing through 𝑹𝟐 ; as well as the current passing through 𝑹𝟑 .
5. An oscilloscope is connected to measure the voltage 𝑼𝑩𝑪 .
a. Reproduce the figure and show the connexion of the oscilloscope.
b. show that 𝑺𝑽 = 𝟐𝑽/𝒅𝒊𝒗 knowing that the luminous line is 𝟐. 𝟒 𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏.
Exercise 3: (6 points) The heating resistance of water boiler.
Part A:
An electric bottle in an apartment contains 2 liters of water at room temperature. the bottle
heats the water to boiling temperature in 𝟓 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔. Knowing that the voltage of the mains is
220V and the thermal energy acquired by the water is 𝟔. 𝟔𝟗 × 𝟏𝟎𝟓 𝑱.
1. Calculate the electric power consumed by the bottle.
2. Calculate the current traverse the resistance of the bottle.
3. Calculate the heating resistance of the bottle.

Part B:
The main cable of this apartment can support a maximum current of intensity 𝟐𝟓 𝑨.
The apartment includes:
𝟐 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 (𝟒𝑨), 𝟐 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓 (𝟐𝑨), 𝟑 𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔 (𝟑𝑨) 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝟐𝟎 𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒔 (𝟎. 𝟑𝑨).

1. How are the electric appliances connected? Why?

2. Calculate the intensity of the main current when all these devices functions at the
same time.
3. Is there a risk of fire? Why?
4. What can be used to avoid fire? Justify?

Exercise 4: (4points) Experimental study of a resistor

In order to determine the resistance R of a resistor, we connect it in series with a rheostat

across the terminals of a battery. A voltmeter and an ammeter are connected in the circuit to
determine the voltage U across the terminals of R and the intensity of the current I traversing
it. The values of U and I are summarized in the table below:

I (A) 0.01 0.02 0.06 0.09 0.1

U (v) 1 2 6 9 10

1. Draw a figure of the circuit.

2. Represent the graph of U as function of I using the scale:
x-axis: 1 cm 0.01A
y-axis: 1 cm 2v
3. Determine the equation of the characteristic curve (U-I). Which law is thus verified?
4. Deduce the value of the resistance R.
5. For a voltage U = 12v, the corresponding current is I = 0.15A.
6. Is ohm's law verified in this case? Justify.
