INTRODUCTION

The process of creating a new product to be sold by a company or company

to its customers is product design. It is concerned with producing and developing
ideas efficiently and effectively through a process that leads to new products.
Product Design and Industrial Design can overlap in the fields of design,
information design and interaction design of user interfaces. In a more systematic
approach, product designers conceptualize and assess ideas, rendering them
tangible through products. Digital tools have facilitated this evolving role, allowing
designers to communicate, visualize and analyze ideas in a way that would have
taken more time in the past. It is reported that Malaysian Industrial Design started
around the 1970's in Kelantan, Terengganu and Melaka. Its existence can be
traced directly to the purchase and sale of metal and clay craft products. The
producers are made up of fishermen and farmers who, in the hope of making
extra money, have produced them part-time. Informal education in industrial
design was mostly hereditary-based. It started as a transfer of abilities within the
family. The numerous organizations currently working on design research and
development and advocating for design growth in Malaysia are the best evidence
of product design growth in Malaysia.

ELABORATION

The role of Majlis Rekabentuk Malaysia (MRM) in advocating design in to

provides innovative and creative products sell . The Malaysia Design Council
(MRM) was set up in 1993 to provide Malaysia with a future for innovation and
design. It spearheads the country's design programs to boost the design
expertise, capabilities and standards of the industry. MRM, a non-profit
organization, is overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology and
Innovation. It is viewed among Malaysians as a think tank and advisor to
develop innovative designs and to ensure that we are on par with international
standards.

They also want to produce Malaysian made and innovative designed

products that can compete at an international level. There are many products
designed by Malaysia that are already in production today, receiving numerous
awards for their good design. Unlike before, more businesses are taking the
steps to set up an R&D center with a design team because it is believed that
design can add value to the offered products and services. The role of the
Industrial Designer was mostly to enhance the physical characteristics of a
product when design first started in Malaysia. Industrial designers are currently
working a lot on technology-related or technology-enabled products, as well as
designs with human factors in mind. Individual designers have seldom been
recognized for their work in the past. Instead, the works are highlighted as a
company's product. In Malaysia today, the increased need for intellectual
property has allowed individual designers to be better recognized for their
works, in line with global trends.

It's an undeniable fact that innovative and creative products sell.

Manufacturers need to market their products innovatively with good designs to
stay competitive in the international market. It is not an easy task to make
products stand out in the eyes of consumers, as consumers today are easily
influenced by beautiful designs and shapes. It is imperative for manufacturers
and designers to come up with fresh ideas and inculcate a culture of dynamic
innovation in order to remain competitive in the global market and gain good
market demand.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the government needs to pay attention to the existing

designers in Malaysia so that they can design more innovative and creative
products. MRM should give more opportunities to designers who are unable to
showcase their talents. This is because, there are designers who hide their
talents because they can not afford to continue in the field of art because of
thinking about their costs and future. So we need to change the human
perception that says taking up this field of art there is no progress in the future.
In fact, by learning this design, Malaysia can produce designers that are
comparable to foreign designers. MRM is a non-profit agency under the
supervision of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and SIRIM
Berhad is the secretariat appointed by MRM. To develop innovative designs
among Malaysians and to ensure that we are on par with international
standards, it is considered as a think tank and advisor. Therefore, we as a
united society need to give support and a positive view to Malaysian designers
so that they can improve their designs for the progress of our country.
