Movie Title: The Prince of Egypt

Summary & Review of the movie and how it is

connected to Judaism:
The movie begins with a baby who was left on the river by his mother due to their
“chasers” that kill every single one of their newborn male babies. Then the baby was
found drifting along the river and he was saved by the Queen of Egypt. The baby then
was named “Moses” and he grew up to be the Prince of Egypt, alongside his brother,
Rameses. Later on, it was revealed that he was just adopted into the Egyptian family
after having dreamt of the horrors his father, the Pharaoh, did to the Hebrew - which
turns out to be Moses’ true identity. He soon unravels as he cannot accept the fact that
his father turned out to be a murderer of Moses’ own race and he left Egypt to find
himself. In the desert, there he meets people who live in the mountains who welcomed
and accepted him as their own family. On the same mountain where he lives, there he
saw a fire on a tree who introduced itself as “God” and assigned Moses as the
messenger of God who will save his people, the Hebrews, into the hands of the ruthless
Pharaoh. Moses then did what he was tasked to do as he was relieved by how a
miraculous being God is. After countless attempts of Moses in freeing the Hebrews, the
Hebrews finally gained their freedom by crossing the Red Sea.

The movie mainly speaks on how Moses was defiant to accept who he really is, and it
was shown that along the way he was also conflicted on what his identity should be. It
was properly portrayed as people undergo several changes within themselves that they
cannot accept easily. His way to spirituality which is portrayed via the tree of fire is also
what people do encounter within their lives as they face their own conflicts. The tree of
fire resembles either guide or wisdom, which people seek through their religion or their
belief that there is a God that is present in this world. People seek wisdom on either
existent or non-existent things that pinches the enlightenment they want to reach and in
Moses, he found meaning in his life when the tree of fire spoke to him and introduced
him to the path of faithfulness to God. Overall, the movie gave me a new perception in
life as to how we are bound to have different beliefs but we share similar experiences
and tragedies. I like how the movie shows us the comparison of the two characters but
also one of them has to experience hardships over the other. The characters in the
movie portray real human emotions which makes it really relatable to begin with.
In Judaism, the Jews believe in one God because they believe that they are the one
true race that Moses saved in the hands of the Egyptians. It is stated on their principles
of faith that “Moses’ prophecies are true, and Moses was the greatest of the prophets”,
Moses proved to the Israelites that there is only one true God and nothing else. This
sums up the connection to their belief that there is only one God because of Moses’
testaments before which is shown in the movie I’ve watched. The movie portrayed what
is necessary for them to portray and I think it correlates it with how the Jews connected
their belief in one God through the stories of Moses.
