The Story of Keesh is an adventure, science fiction, and fantasy and a literary. The story
was about a bright young boy named Keesh who lived in the rim of the polar sea. Meaning, the
story took place in cold area since the word Igloo was used in the story. Keesh, who happened to
be the youngest hunter in the village during his time, was proving to all the hunters in their village
that he could be a great hunter. He also proved to other hunters that it was a headcraft and not
witchcraft that had helped him in successfully hunting bears for his tribe. This young hunter was
hunting bears for his tribe and gave a fair share of meat to all the people in the village. His courage,
intelligence and loved for his tribe brought him to become a head man of his village.
The story started when Keesh was trying to argue with the head of the village about the
inappropriate sharing of meat in their village. Never that he discovered that he had an innate skill
of hunting in himself until he tried and successfully hunted bears for the villagers. With these, he
proved himself to the hunters and the head of the village that he could be as good or better hunter
than them. Well, he proved himself to be the best hunter in the village. The author wanted to tell
us that these circumstances are also happening in real life. The author portrayed a lead character
who happened to be the hero of the village by providing them their needs in the form of sharing
the meat from the hunted bears. The author also wanted to express the value of giving, patriotism
and love for people. The author also expressed that never underestimate what a boy or teenagers
can do because each one of us has our own strengths and capabilities in dealing with certain
situations.
As I read the story, at first, I can’t really understand what the author was trying to imply. A
find it tedious and lifeless. But as story moved on, I found it a classic, interesting and truthful one.
The story gave us the lesson and the values that we have to leaned from it. The story taught us
the value of giving, patriotism and love for people. Keesh, was the epitome of a legendary hero
who valued the people of his tribe and fairness. The story also taught us to fight for our dignity
and not letting other people stepped into our dignity. Also, the story taught us value of giving back
to other people who had helped us during the time of wilderness. We should never underestimate
what a young boy could do because we have our own strengths and skills. Also, the story taught
us to value hardwork, camaraderie and companionship. It was a magnificent, fantastic and
legendary story indeed.
The story used several figures of speech to illustrate a subject or events that happened in
the story. Simile was used in the story to compare the bear to a playful puppy, as it was not playing
himself but in pain. Imagery was also used in the story to create a mental picture of situation or
physical sensations. Irony was also used in the story to convey an opposite meaning to what is
actually said or done in the story. And paradox was used in the story to examine and find the truth
after contradicting one’s said.
These figures of speech used in the story helped to easily convey emotions, gain clarity
of the certain situation happened in the story, and symbols that elaborated the important things

easier understanding of the situations portrayed in the story.
The story ended merrily because Keesh was able to prove himself that he could be a great

The story was about an artist named Johnsy who was diagnosed with Pneumonia. She
was with her flatmate Sue who took care of her while she was ill. It was in November when
Pneumonia touched the people in Greenwich Village in New York City. Johnsy is not an exemption
with this illness. She was a pessimist who overtaught things and always thinking that she would
passed away so quickly like the leaves fell down from the tree beside their apartment. But there
was her flatmate Sue who was an optimistic and always reminded Johnsy not to think that she
would die. Then there was an Old Mr. Berhman, a failure painter who tried to paint a masterpiece
all his life. But his last painting gave and extended the life of Johnsy. The story entitled, “The Last
Leaf” which was authored by O’ Henry was a work of art because it brings to ignite the importance
of faith, hope and optimism in order to face the obstacles that come over in our life.
The story began in November in Greenwich Village in New York. There were two women,
Johnsy and Sue, who were an artist. The month brought a cold and windy atmosphere which
were signs that Autumns was coming. Due to the cold weather, many people suffered with a
disease called Pneumonia. It was considered a deadly disease during that time because a lot of
people passed away. Then, Johnsy was examined by the doctor and unfortunately, was
diagnosed with the deadly disease. It made her roommate Sue worried because she was still sick
in bed. Johnsy was pessimistic about her condition, thinking that she will end her life soon. But
Sue was so optimistic that she always telling her friend not to think that she would die so soon.
Johnsy taught that her life will end if the last leaf fell down from the tree. Then there was an Old
Mr. Berhman, a painter who also lived in the first floor beneath them. He was a 60-year old then
and was a failure in art. He was very protective to the two women living upstairs and also rebuke’s
Johsy’s claims. The old man tried to paint a masterpiece all his life but he failed. Sue told Mr.
Berhman about Johnsy’s obsession with the leaf and her chances of survival. Then there came
the strong winds and rains. Johnsy was already prepared to die because she taught that the last
leaf will fall down after the storm. But the day after, when Sue opened the curtain, she saw the
leaf was still there. Never that she knew, that it was the painting of Mr. Behrman which they saw
over the window. But unfortunately, the old man died due to Pneumonia also. Mr. Behrman’s
heroic act paved the way for Johnsy to live longer than what she was expected to be.
The author intended us to have faith, hope and be optimistic in life whatever circumstances
life may bring. We need to be optimistic that we can overcome all the trials that may come along
our way. The author also showed us that it is faith that will save us from the problems that we
encountered in our lived. All we need is to trust the process and believed in our God above. The
story also expressed the value of friendship. The friendship of two ladies were evident in the story.
Sue was sincerely caring for her friend Johnsy who was diagnosed with a deadly disease. Then
the story taught us the goodness of humanity. Mr. Berhman saved the life of Johnsy by his
painting. All his life, he was a failure in painting. But his last painting was a success because that
painting brought the second life to Johnsy.
The story was quite tragic for me because of the unprecedented circumstance that brought
that endangered the lives of the characters in the story and caused the death of one character.
However, it turned out magical, miraculous and heroic since Mr. Berhman’s painting gave and
extended the life of the dying Johnsy. The act done by Mr. Behrman was a monumental one and
cannot be matched by any tangible things in this world.
The story used several figures of speech to illustrate a subject or events that happened in
the story. Imagery was also used in the story to create a mental picture of situation or physical
sensations. Irony was also used in the story to convey an opposite meaning to what is actually
said or done in the story. These figures of speech were used to gain clearness and elaborate the
important things that happened to make it more realistic and captivating.
The story ended downcast and melancholic since Mr. Behrman, the savior of Johnsy who
lost his life because of the deadly disease. However, he was still able to extend one’s life by his
painting. It was a heroic act showed by Mr. Behrman before he left for the next life. His painting
was the most successful out of all the masterpiece he created.
