COMPARATIVES :

İki taraf arasında kıyaslama yapılırken kullanılan yapılardır . bir çok yapı vardır; en yaygın olanı tek heceli sıfatların
sonuna “-er “ takısı ; iki yada daha fazla heceli sıfatların başına ise more yapısının getirlmesidir . sıfatlara “daha”
anlamı katar.

More exhaustive, more interesting ...

- zarflar ile bir kıyaslama yapılacaksa “-ly” ile biten zarflar önüne more getirilmelidir. Early zarfı hariç

Sıfat + ly = slowly

İsim+ly = friendly

Early- earlier, more carefully, more frankly ....

-sıfat ve zarf hali aynı olan zarflar “-er” takısı ile comparative yapar

- iki taraf arasında kıyaslama yapılıyor ise “than” yapısı kullanılır .

Later : ( daha sonra ) He arrived later than us .

Latter ( iki şeyden ikincisi ) I saw two films yesterday. The latter was better .

Herhangi bir boşluktan önce “much/far/a lot / rather / a bit / no” yapılarını görürsek doğru cevap olarak şıklarda
comparative şıkkına gitmeliyiz.

STRATEJİ

Genelde comparative yapıdan sonra than kullanılması beklenir. Ancak kıyaslama yapılarında than kullanmak için soru
kökünde kıyaslama yapılan ikinci şey bulunmalıdır.

THE MORE ..... THE MORE ...: NE KADAR ..... O KADAR

Birbirine bağlı değişen iki durumu kıyaslamak için kullanılır.

The + comparative ........ the + comparative

The longer you work, the more you earn.

The more Money you have , the better you live.

The taller someone is , the better she can play basketball.

AS/SO..... AS : ... KADAR

Sıfatlara getirilen –er takısı ya da more yapısından farklı olarak comparative yapabileceğimiz bir diğer yapı “as...as”
veya “so...as “ yapısıdır. Bu iki ifadenin ortasına bir sıfat ya da bir zarf gelmek zorundadır. Olumsuz yapı
kullanılacaksa daha çok “so ... as “ yapısını kullanın.

Living in the county doesn’t cost as /so much as living in big cities. Cost : maliyet / tutmak
!!!! as/so ... as yapısı “many, much, few, little “ ile birlikte kullanılabilir.

!!!! As/so.... as kalıbı normalde arada “adj+ noun “ yapısı ile kullanılmaz. Ancak isim sayılabilen tekil bir isim ise

“adj + a/an +noun “ şeklinde kullanılabilir. A nice boy / nice a boy

We haven’t met as/so studious a boy as him so far.

I hadn’t expected their team to get as high a score as they did.

such + a/an +adj + noun that neden sonuç ilişkisi

SUCH ... AS : ..KADAR...

Yine bir “adj+noun” yapısı ile kullanılır. İsim sayılabilen tekilken a/an yapısı kullanılır. Bunun dışında isim sayılamayan
ya da çoğul isim de alabilir.

a) Yönetim kurulu onunki kadar yaralı bir araştırma yapacağımı beklemiyordu fakat ben başardım. ( sayılabilen bir

c) şimdiye kadar burada bu kadar berbat bir hava görmedim. ( sayılamayan isim )

!!!! “yapacak kadar” anlamında kullanılan iki farklı yapı vardır. Bunlardan biri sadece kendineden sonra sıfat ya da
zarf alabilen “as/so adjective/adverb + as to V1 “ diğeri de kendinden sonra “adj+noun “ alan “such
+adjective+noun +as + to V1” yapılarıdır.

He isn’t so qualified as to get the job without having some additional training.

(..) Biraz ek eğitim olmadan işe girecek kadar nitelikli değil.

She isn’t such a qualified candidate as to deal with all these diplomatic troubles.

(..) Bütün bu diplomatik sıkıntıların üstesinden gelebilecek kadar nitelikli bir aday değildir.

!!!! karşılaştırdığımız özelliğin kaç kat olduğunu belirtmek istiyorsak “half as..as” . “twice as...as”/ twice ...er..than ve
“three times more..than” gibi yapılar kullanırız.

It is not possible for me to earn even half as much as she does / does she.

(...) Onun kazandığının yarısı kadar bile kazanmam mümkün değil.

The second mid- term was really twice as diffucult as the previous one .

(...) İkinci vize gerçekten öncekinin iki katı kadar daha zordu.

THE SAME... AS : .... İLE AYNI...

“The same + noun + as” şeklinde kullanılır ve iki şeyin aynı olduğunu belirtir. İsim almadan “the same as” ya da” the
same” şeklinde de kullanılabilir.

Tony is the same weight as me/ I am /am I. (= as..as / Tony is as heavy as me./ I am / am I )

Her grades are the same as mine ( = as..as / Her grades are as good as mine )

Our grades are the same.

Comparative( kıyaslma ) yapılarının vurgulanması :

MUCH / FAR / A LOT

“çok daha “ anlamında kullanılacak yapılardır .

The university entrance exam is much / far / a lot more important than the other exams.

The new secretary works much/far/a lot more efficiently than the old one ( efficiently)

The old man earns much/far/a lot less than his son. ( more /less)

ANY/ NO

“NO” olumsuzluk içerirken “any” ise olumsuz , soru ve if cümlelerinde kullanılır .

I’m no better at Maths than my sister.

The exam was no easier than the previous one.

I don’t have any more Money than you do.

If you make any more noise , I’ll have to send you out.

EVEN

...bile daha ... anlamına gelir

She dances so well. She dances even better than some of the professional dancers.

The pay rise I got was even bigger than I would imagine.
