SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT

Subject verb agreement means that the subjects and the verbs in a sentence must
agree with one another in number (singular or plural). Therefore, if a subject is singular,
its verb must also be singular; if a subject is plural, its verb must also be plural.
Here are some rules of Subject Verb Agreement:

A. Singular subject takes singular verb

Example:
The dog barks loudly
S V

Singular Noun is the noun which is only one/single/alone.

Ex: a car, a boy, an egg, etc.

Singular verb always ends by ‘S’ or ‘ES’ at the end.

Example:
Eats
Drinks
Sweeps
Studies

B. Plural subject takes a plural verb.

Example:
The students study in the class.
S V

Plural noun is more than one or not alone.

Ex: books, pencils, children, etc.

Plural verb doesn’t need any ‘S’ or ‘ES’ at the end of the verb.
Example:
Watch
Study
Eat
Walk
