Objective: SWBAT: o Identify that a doubles fact is adding the same number twice. o Identify that doubles facts always have the same answer when adding. o Identify that doubles facts can also be used to solve subtraction problems. Materials: o Doubles Facts Song Hopscotch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At0quRa90rs o Set of two ten frames: Printed materials o Set of connecting cubes (24) Located in manipulatives bag Plan: o Students will begin the lesson by listening to the doubles song from Hopscotch. o Students will engage in a KWL Chart about what they know, have observed, and want to learn about doubles. o Students will work in table groups to complete all manipulative visuals of doubles facts and draw them on a piece of paper. Once completed they will work together to define a doubles fact in their own words. o Closing: Students will share their definitions with the other table groups. Teacher will guide students conversation and prompt higher-order thinking questions to ensure proper understanding/defining of a doubles fact. Goal: Students will be able to sing this song each day before math throughout the rest of the year to encourage familiarity with doubles facts and near doubles facts with a visual to solidify their learning.
