CALCULUS 2 (INTEGRAL)

OBJECTIVE:

 Evaluate indefinite and definite integrals of algebraic functions using basic integration
rules and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
 Apply the substitution rule to transform a given definite/indefinite integral to a simpler
definite/indefinite integral.

ACTIVITY:

 What are the fundamental/basic rules of integration and its definition?

 Also, compare/differentiate these fundamental/basic rules of integration.
 What is the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus (FTC)?
 What is the Substitution (or u-substitution) Rule of integration?

 ANSWER:
 Integration rules: Integration is used to find many useful parameters or quantities like
area, volumes, central points, etc., on a large scale. The most common application of
integration is to find the area under the curve on a graph of a function. To work out the
integral of more complicated functions than just the known ones, we have some
integration rules. These rules can be studied below. Apart from these rules, there are
many integral formulas that substitute the integral form.
 Integration is defined as the inverse process of differentiation and hence the evaluation
of an integral is called as anti derivative, while differentiation is one of the two
important concepts apart from integration. Differentiation is a method of finding the
derivative of a function.
 The fundamental theorem of calculus is a theorem that links the concept of
differentiating a function with the concept of integrating a function. The two operations
are inverses of each other apart from a constant value which is dependent on where one
starts to compute area.
 “Integration by Substitution" (also called "u-Substitution" or "The Reverse Chain Rule")
is a method to find an integral, but only when it can be set up in a special way.
