1.0 GENERAL:
This document covers the design of pedestals and foundations for Pipe supporting posts given
in drawing PEIL-CES-ME-PPL-WTP-143.

2.0 SCOPE:
This document contains the Design of pedestals using staad and foundation using spread sheet.

3.0 STAAD MODELING AND DESIGN

A three dimensional space frame model has been modeled using 2-noded beam and axial
elements in STAAD. The structure is modeled as a space frame. The secondary beams are also
modeled in the staad. All members are considered as standard Indian rolled sections.

Reactions obtained at the support from the main frame analysis is applied as loads on the
frame as per relevant IS codes. The different load combinations considered in the analysis are
considered here as well.

STAAD PRO V8i software is used for the analysis and design of pedestals. The global Co-
ordinate system used for the 3-dimensional model analysis is as follows. Following positive
co-ordinates is considered in the analysis and design.

Positive axis for beam elements

The arrows indicate positive direction considered in staad. The input and output for u1 to u6
corresponds to as follows

u1 - Fx u4 - Mx
u2 - Fy u5 - My
u3 - Fz u6 - Mz
Sign Convention for positive values:
1. Forces

X direction - Left to right

Y direction - bottom to top
Z direction - Back to front

2. Moments

Right hand thumb rule gives the direction of positive moment.

(If we grasp the axis in such a way that the thumb is in the direction of positive axis, the
folding fingers gives the direction of positive moment)

The analysis is carried out for all load combinations that was done for super structure design
using staad pro v8i. The design of all the members modeled is done using the in built facility
available in staad pro v8i as per Indian Codes and standards with limit state approach.

4.0 PEDESTAL DESIGN

Based on all the pipe support data furnished, the maximum load acting on the pedestal is
400kg. The minimum pedestal size is 250 sq. Design performed using staad is as given below.
