MUSEUMS

A museum is a building that houses several ancient objects and artifacts of scientific, historical,
artistic, and cultural interest. These artifacts are also exhibited for display to the general public. They are
meant to provide a unique but interactive experience of getting closer to those things which we generally
see on television, in books or in the newspaper. A museum is a public, non-profit organization dedicated to
the advancement of society that acquires, conserves, investigates, transmits, and shows the tangible and
intangible history of mankind and its environment for the purposes of education, study, and enjoyment.
Many of these museums also house one-of-a-kind collections that can't be found anyplace else. Tourists
flock to museums because of the unique combination of cultural history on exhibit and uniqueness.

 Five (5) sample establishments with their short background (categorized under the tourism-
oriented business you are assigned with)

1.) Escolta Museum

This is a cultural treat to the history of an interesting city Manila. It rewinds the city’s vintage
things used back during those ages. Mostly the bottles, boards are in either Spanish or old Tagalog.
It lets you tour in the old setting of an elegant city.

2.) Ayala Museum

It is also located at Manila, in the Ayala district of Makati. It has collections which depict
the story of the evolution of the Philippines. It must be surely interesting to see a country other
than our home country evolving to what it stands as today. This is shown with the help of
dioramas. It shows various artifacts with the specialties of the locals. Unlike the former one, it is
a privately owned museum and so a small amount is charged as admission fee.
3.) National museum of the Philippines
In 1928, the National Museum of the Philippine Islands was created and placed under the
Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and housed in a building in the Port Area adjacent to
the Manila Hotel. The National Library was also established as a separate institution.

The primary mission of the National Museum of the Philippines is to acquire, document,
preserve, exhibit, and foster scholarly study and appreciation of works of art, specimens, and cultural
and historical artifacts.

4.) The Museum of Natural History

It was opened its doors in 2018 after some heavy renovation. The biggest attraction is the
skeleton and taxidermy display of Lolong, the largest crocodile in captivity (at least, when it was
alive until 2013). There are also various exhibits of Philippine flora and fauna. Some of the exhibits
are also interactive.

Being part of the set of museums around Luneta, this can also be easily reached from the park.
Just look out for its distinctive geodesic dome as you walk towards Agrifina Circle. Like the Fine Arts
Museum, this is a repurposed building that was originally meant to be the Agricultural and
Commerce Building

5.) Museo Filipino

Museo Filipino is a photo exhibit gallery, describing the history of the Philippines from
the precolonial period all the way to the present-day government. It also has a short
documentary video of the EDSA Revolution experienced by the Philippine nation in 1986. A
walk-through of Museo Filipino will give the reader a bird's eye view of Philippine history, the
challenges the Filipino people as a nation have experienced, and a profile of the heroes the
Filipinos have celebrated. It also gives the reader the locations of several historical markers in
Intramuros, so they may visit these markers if they feel like it.

Definitely, one should not leave Intramuros without passing by Museo Filipino. Museo
Filipino has a little bit of Philippine history, a tribute to Filipino heroes, a cafe inspired of Spanish
and Filipino food favorites, and a souvenir shop of exclusively Filipino-designed products.
