Questions for Discussion:

1. What nutritional advice is recommended for a healthy pregnancy? Lactation?

➢ In order to ensure that pregnant and breastfeeding women are getting enough
calories, protein, and micronutrients, it is recommended that they eat three meals a
day, supplemented by one or two snacks. Eating enough meals and eating a wide range
of foods every day can help pregnant women and their babies get the nutrients they
need to thrive. give pregnant women examples of nutrient-rich meals that should be
eaten to ensure the health of both mother and child. Nutrition education for pregnant
and lactating women should focus on ways to get essential nutrients including iron,
calcium, vitamin A, folic acid, and protein into their diets. Methods that are both
practical and effective in increasing iron bioavailability include soaking beans, eating
vitamin C-rich foods with meals, and employing calcium salts. If you can get your hands
on some, dairy products are a fantastic way to get your calcium.
2. What are the different factors to consider in planning a menu for growing children?
• the food's nutritional value (eating vegetables every day seems to be the one most
people forget)
• the child's likes and dislikes when it comes to food (there's no point in making a
healthy and tasty meal if the child won't eat it), how easy it is to make (generally
people who are feeding children are very busy people so this matters)
• a healthy amount for the child to eat (most people give children larger portions than
they actually need)
• The importance of the food to a child's culture. (I'm not a big fan of corned beef and
cabbage, but it's important to my family's culture, and I don't hate it, so I eat it on St.
Patrick's Day.)
• how much the food cost (some families are lucky enough for this not to matter, but
usually it does)
• how hard it is to eat (don't expect a one-year-old to be able to handle an ice cream
cone or artichoke hearts).
