Topic:              Feeding the School – Age Child

The growing body of a school – age child is in need of nutrients of increased amounts.
However, he / she may be very choosy when it comes to eating his /her packed lunch or
baon. To ensure mental and physical development, his / her baon should be balanced. It
should be simple but palatable and attractive to stimulate his / her appetite

Objectives:

At the end of the unit, you should be able to recognize the importance of preparing a
feeding plan for children.

Evaluation:

1.      Plan a one – week schedule of packed lunch and snacks for a school – age child

2.      Prepare assigned sample menu (lunch meal) for class presentation.( picture)

3.      Discuss case assessment and tray presentation giving emphasis on the rationale of diet given.
4.      Submit individual worksheet @ LMS
 
Question for discussion:
 
1.      What are the nutritional needs of a school age child?
 Vitamin A, which can be found in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products; vitamin D, which can be found
in fish and dairy products; calcium, which can be found in dairy products and dairy-free calcium-fortified
beverages; iron, which can be found in meats and iron-fortified grains; iodine, which can be found in
abundance in seafood, dairy products; and vitamin D, which can be found in fish and dairy products.
These are all important nutrients for children who are of school age.
