STEP NUMBER ONE
Have a Great Hook
A great hook will catch the viewer's attention
and make sure they're like, okay, I'm open to
hearing what this guy has to say. A great guy who
has incredible hooks is Alex Becker. He has his
hook where he pounds a mug on the table —
that's a great hook. Essentially, you want to think
about various hooks in the first 5 to 10 seconds
that will keep the viewer's attention, so they
watch the video.

great CPAs.

STEP TWO
Learn from Other Creatives
(Including Yourself!)

You want to actually think about what elements


the video creatives in your industry have that are
working, and then try to figure out what you can
implement. A lot of times it's pretty simple.

You want to have:


     
a hook
  
you want to go over the benefits
      
the call to action

… et cetera

A lot of times in your industry, there might be


video advertisers running all kinds of ads, and you
can see which ones are doing well based on how
often you see them, based on the number of
reviews, et cetera. So, for example, in the internet
marketing industry, some of the people I like to
look at for analyzing hooks are:

Sam Owens
       
Alex Becker
       
Welco Decreich

… and there is a bunch of other people

Do a Postmortem
Take a look at your video ads from the past and
see what has worked and has not worked. So, for
example, one of the most successful video ads
that I've run for a client, where our agency
scripted it, was based on analyzing. We took the
intro from one of our past fitness clients then we
combined it with internet marketing scripts that
were working for us.

So we would combine elements from two


different niches we worked in, and this allowed
us to create a video ad that just resulted in
millions of revenue. We spent hundreds of
thousands of dollars on that ad and generated
millions in revenue. It was a resounding success.
So always take a look at what has worked for
you. Take a look at different video ads in various
industries and figure out how to combine those
elements. So that's number two.

STEP THREE
Experiment and Iterate with Split Tests
You also want to experiment and iterate. So
basically, run split tests. You want to be running
different split tests and seeing what works and
doesn't work in terms of CPA.

Run split tests with:       


 
two different hooks, but everything else the same
            
a different call to action
      
the same video ad but in two different
backgrounds

Make sure you let the ads run for long enough to
you get enough data. Once you have enough data,
that's where you know you've got a winning video
ad. Now you have something to work from. And
then again, once you have a winning video ad, try
more variations, always experimenting and
iterating. That's how you know you have a winning
video ad strategy.

So to recap: put a lot of effort into the hook. Put


a lot of effort into finding what's been working in
your industry, analyzing other peoples' video ads,
breaking them down: what are the different parts of
my competitors' video ads that perhaps I could also
implement? And number three is experiment and
iterate. And that's a great way to achieve YouTube
ad video success in the long term.
