MINI LESSON PLAN IN TEACHING ARTS IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

TOPIC/LESSON: Shapes

TARGET LEVEL: Grade 1

TIME ALLOTMENT: 40 minutes – 1 hour

PRELIMINARIES:

Greeting
Checking of attendance
Review of the previous lesson
- Students will review the previous topic about COLORS
 Establishing purpose of the lesson

OBJECTIVE:

The students will be able to:

a. Recognize and name the basic shapes


b. Identify basic shapes
c. Appreciate the importance of the shapes

ACTIVITY NO.1 SING


WITH ME

Student will sing the song ‘’Shapes All Around Us’’ in canned presentation.

Shapes Are All Around

Triangle, rectangle, circle and heart.

Diamond, square, oval and star.

Full moon, soccer ball, rolling wheels.

ACTIVITY NO.2 MISSING


SHAPES

Students must close their eyes when I lay out the shapes on the board. Everyone must
identify the shape that is missing when I take one away and command them to "open their
eyes."

ACTIVITY NO.3 SHAPE


TOUCH

When all hands are in the air and the shapes are spread out on the floor, I'll say, "Hands
up in the air." Once everyone has their hands raised, I'll say, "Touch the circle." Everyone
should rapidly touch (not slam) a circle.

PRESENTAION OF LESSON

 I will start the lesson by showing a customized shapes (e.g. circle, triangle,
rectangle etc.) and other concrete materials.
 I will also flash the lesson using canned presentation for showing the students
other objects or things that have shapes.

ACTIVITY NO.4
MATCHING SHAPES
For me to determine if they comprehend, I have prepared a worksheet for them to
answer. They will match each shape to its corresponding objects.
ACTIVITY NO.5 NAMING
SHAPES

For them to use what they've learned, students will have to circle the correct name of
each shape.
