What is a sentence?

What are the types of sentences?

Motivation:

P. A. N. T. S.

Directions. P. A. N. T. S. stands for Place, Animal, Name, Thing and Score. A letter
will be given and the representative of each group should think of a place, animal,
name, and thing that start with the given letter. Each group should pick a different
representative for each round. Each round is good for 30 seconds. One point will be
given for each correct answer. No points will be given for each group if they have
the same answers.

Presentation and Two Types of Noun


Discussion:
Common Noun

Common noun is a general name of persons, places, things, animals or events. It


always begins with a small letter.

Examples:

1. He broke the plate I gave him.


2. My brother was promoted today.
3. The lion went back to the cave.

Proper Noun

Proper noun is a specific name of persons, places, things or events. It always begins
with a capital letter.

Examples:

1. I finished school last June.


2. She’ll arrive in New York at noon.
3. Only Julie and I have read the book.

Every proper noun has a common noun equivalent.

Proper Noun = Common Noun

Here are another examples of Proper Nouns compared to Common Nouns using
simple sentences.
