QUESTIONS

1. Describe some key elements of an appropriate safety training program?

Education and Training: management and employees should all be properly and
effectively trained to understand why and how safety and health programs work, as
well as how to implement them effectively.

2. Enumerate some practices to reduce the probability of accidents.

Chemical hazards, like any other hazards, is unpredictable but the risk can always be
lessened through planning and preparation (American Red Cross, n.d.). Here are
some procedures done to avoid dangerous accidents inside laboratories.
• Avoid mixing chemicals that may become dangerous when mixed together,
especially if you do not know what you are doing
• Clean up any chemical spills immediately
• Store your chemicals properly
• Label your chemical correctly to avoid confusion
• Keep your work area clean

3. Enumerate some PPE used in the laboratory.

People working inside laboratories are prone to dangers, that is below presented are
some safety measures usually conducted inside the lab.
• Employee Participation and Management Commitment. Establishing the policy,
allocating and supporting responsibilities, setting a positive example, and
involving workers are all things that the manager or management team may do
to lead the way.
• Make sure you have clear vision. By altering your depth perception, wearing
reading glasses or new multifocal lenses while walking might increase your
chance of falling.

• Remove any potential risks in your place. Tack or tape down loose rugs, if
required, build handrails, or grab bars, and make sure you have adequate
illumination to see hazards properly.
• Safety glasses. surgical gowns. laboratory coats.

4. Pollution prevention is an integral component of waste management practices.

What are some pollution prevention techniques?

The technological age gave way to better quality of service and product hence
improving the productivity of the world in general. However, majority of these
developments have impacted the environment negatively. In fact, there are over “2
billion tons of solid waste are generated by various institutions around the
world” (Thompson, 2021). Such disposal have caused humans catastrophic events,
so most of today’s organization adopted rules implemented by most government
around the world with emphasis on proliferating the environment and ecosystem.

Here are some practices done today:

• Converting waste energy
The idea of energy conversion is present ever since, and some organizations
have embraced the waste or available energy into usable electricity in
powering their workplace. One example would be the Energy Development
Corporation in the Philippines, the leading global geothermal energy company
in Pasig City.
• Green Infrastructures
These are buildings that follows a design that is non-destructive and
promotional to majority of environmental landscapes of the location. In the
Philippines, green roof and water management are adopted by some
government office buildings near Quezon City.
• Avoidance of polluting substances
• Dodging of activities that produce contaminated water

• Correct use of drains

• Reducing, reusing, and recycling products and waste
• Segregation of byproducts
• Unloading and moving of potential pollutants
• Construction, inspection, and maintenance
• Work with Environment Agencies
