TDL ASSIGNMENT 2:

The concept of Sense of place is used in studying human-place bonding,

attachment and place meaning. Considering dimensions of sense of place
has always been beneficial for investigating public place attachment and
pro-environmental attitudes towards different places.

Places play an essential and vital role in human life.

The term ‘place’ expresses a strong affective bond between a person and a
particular setting. As a result, place is a particular
space which is covered with meanings and values by the users.

Due to the growth of human societies, changes in

people’s lifestyles and also development of technological
advances places convey very less meaning and people
suffer from a sense of ‘placelessness’. Architects, designers and planners should
pay more attention to the quality of places and built environments to counter
‘placelessness’. Henceforth, nowadays the role of design as a tool to answer
human needs and expectations are more significant.

Sense of place:
Sense of place refers to the emotional bond and attachments people develop in
particular locations and environments, at scales ranging from the home, town, city
or nation.
Knowledge of being located in a place: for example we are familiar with the
location, surrounding etc. of Huda city center but it does not invoke any sense of
attachment to it.
Belonging to a place: it means one is not only familiar but emotionally attached
to a place, like our previous school as we have a lot of good memories there
Attachment to a place: a person has strong emotional connection and familiarity
to the place, such as Lazer valley park which my family visited every weekend to
spend quality time with each other.
Identifying with the place goals: people are integrated with the place and its
goals as it gives a sense of accomplishment and belonging, like working in an
official setting.
Involvement in a place: people have an active role in the place, by investing their
own resources such as money, time, or talent in the activities of the place, just as
we make monitory donations or our time in a temple, orphanage etc.
Sacrifice for a place: place(country) is more important than an individual(you)
and one will do or die for it. It is the highest level of commitment to a place.

Example:
The place I feel most attached to is
Shiv Mandir in my maternal village. It is well connected and easy to reach. Here the
air is not only rich with devotion but with a sense of belonging and togetherness. I
visit there often with my friends and family as 'shramdaan' here gives me a feeling
of accomplishment and peace.
It is my safe heaven to recuperate and rejuvenate both mind and soul.

Conclusion:
A place is where people come together to create an experience . It provides unique
opportunities for actions such as networking, healing, community programing etc.
