QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
● Quantitative research is the process of collecting and
analyzing numerical data . It can be used to find
patterns and averages, make predictions , test casual
relationships and generalize results to wider populations.
● Example –
How has the average temperature changed globally
over the last century?
total no. of cars in a parking lot
● We can use quantitative research methods for
descriptive, correlational or experimental research.

Control or manipulate an independent variable to measure its
effect on a dependent variable.
⬩ Survey
Ask questions of a group of people in person , over the phone
or online
⬩ Observation
Identify a behavior or occurrence of interest and monitor it in
its natural setting.
⬩ Secondary research
Collect data that has been gathered for other purposes
e.g. national surveys or historical records.

QUALITATIVE
RESEARCH
● Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing
non numerical data to understand concepts, opinions or
experiences . It can be used to gather in – depth
insights into a problems or generate new ideas for
research

● Example-
Colour of cars in parking lot
How is anxiety measured around the world?
● Qualitative research is used to understand how people
experience the world. There are many approaches to
qualitative research which includes grounded theory,
ethnography, action reaction etc.
