Materials: Printed portrait, scissors, glue stick, pens, pencils, paper, ruler

Time frame: 1-2 weeks

National Core Art Standards:


VA:Cr1.1.8a: Document early stages of the creative process visually and/or verbally in
traditional or new media.
VA:Cr1.2.IIa: Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary
artistic practices to plan works of art and design.

Lesson Objectives (what will the students do):


- Students will create a collage piece based around their own portrait or of someone in
their family.
- Students will use mixed media to create their final piece.

- Students will create a collage of their “world,” portraying themselves or someone they
love in an abstract way.

Present what collage is and introduce our artist.
Present artist inspiration.
Present student objectives.
Present teacher example.
You Do:
Create thumbnail sketches, find pictures to use.
Find their materials and collage pieces from magazine and books, etc.
Use class time to work on their artwork.
