Time frame: 1 week

VA:Cr1.1.7a: Apply methods to overcome creative blocks.

Lesson Objectives (what will the students do):


Students will find an animal for their zentangle.
Students will be able to design decisions.
Students will experiment with patterns.

Learning Targets (what do you want the students to leave with):


Students will be able to create a zentangle creatures with different, intricate zen patterns in each
selections.

Procedures (what will you do , what will they do):


I Do: Present zentangle artists and pattern ideas.

You Do:
Create thumbnail sketches of proposed plans.
Create pattern ideas.
Choose a creature and create a zentangle by drawing the contours of the creature then
breaking up the interior into 15 sections.

1. Thumbnail ideas.
2. Execution of pattern design
3. Explanation in artist statement.

Vocabulary:
Zentangle- a method of creating images by drawing structured patterns

String- curved line or squiggle drawn inside the border


Tangle- pattern drawn along the contours of the string
Pattern- repeating art elements to create a design
Line- continues mark on a surface.
