INTRODUCTION
This Installation Guide is provided as a simple aid to installation and can be followed by any competent
member of ships staff or by an installation engineer. Please be careful to follow all stages in this guide.
(Further installation manuals can be downloaded from our document website – https://system.stratumfive.
com/documentation/) If during the installation there should be any doubt of the correct way to configure the
SSAS, please consult this Installation Manual for more detail or contact our support team for further advice.
Please pay careful attention to any item with IMPORTANT noted in this guide.
Product Components
V4 Antenna Box
Interface Box
Antenna Cable
Tools Required
Flat Head Screw Driver
Adjustable Spanner
CAUTION It is very important for installers to install the terminals in a safe and secure way to avoid danger or
damage to persons or property.
Mount the terminal where it has a clear view of the sky/satellite. This means at the highest point on
the vessel where it has a clear view of the sky in all directions.
Mount the terminal on a flat, horizontal surface such that a change with rotation does not
cause obstructions.
The terminal is not to be installed in the direct line of the radar or less than 2m from other
radio equipment.

(A) Antenna - mounted above the bridge on (C) Alert Buttons - one installed on the bridge
the main mast or monkey island. and a second installed in a further location
(recommended in the masters’ cabin)
(B) Interface Box - installed in or around the
bridge area.
SAFETY
To protect the installer and the new equipment during installation we highly recommend that you follow the
following procedure:
Isolate power in from main distribution point Check power to ensure isolation
Secure the interface box in an appropriate and discrete location, you will need to use fixings for this (which are
not supplied) Depending on material that you are intending to install to, this will require M4 size screws or bolts.
M4
You will note that you have to remove the lid of the
Interface Box and secure the base to a bulkhead or inside a
cupboard.
IMPORTANT
NOTE: If More than one button per zone
is being connected; then you will need
to replace the wire jumpers with the
additional normally closed Alert Buttons.
IMPORTANT
The Test Switch Button Box has
a Green LED to indicate when
power has been connected to the
interface box and provides the
facility to test the SSAS locally,
Please see the Test Process on
P. 19 for more information
on testing.
Normally closed (N/C) alert buttons are required (x2 Supplied). Using the single button install per zone then
there will be no need to reconfigure the zone wiring, simply remove the first blue wire jumper.
Connect Antenna Cable as per the colour code detailed below, please confirm with diagram:
IMPORTANT
NOTE: The IDP Transmission Terminal serial
number for activation; the serial number should
look similar to this: 01006853SKY5356
IMPORTANT
DO NOT cover or paint the Antenna Box
NOTE: Please ensure that Orange and Blue wires are removed from Alarm Line 1 and Alarm Line 2
connectors that would have been installed at manufacture. Only the cables connected to the Grey
connectors DIN rail should be the Antenna cable (see system diagram).
CONNECTING POWER
Fuse 1 in the antenna is next to be pushed into place; you may notice the LEDs on the charging
circuit light up.
Close Fuse 2 in the antenna box; The SSAS is now operational and the LED on the IDP Terminal
comes on momentarily when connected (this will go out again during normal operation).
Using a crosshead screwdriver, secure the 4x corner screws. Be careful not to over tighten the Screws or round
out the heads.
IMPORTANT
Ensure that there are no obstructions to the antenna
box that houses the IDP Transmission Terminal,
as this will prevent messages from being sent or
received by the Transmission terminal. Please refer
to the “Determine Suitable Mounting Location”
section for advice.

Antenna Cable
The SSAS will send a minimum of one position report per day. When an alert zone is initiated; a repeated
alert message will be sent every 15 minutes. To initialise an alert simply press and hold the alert button for
2 seconds. A reset sent from within OTiS is required to reset the alerts.
We recommend that a SSAS test is performed every year to ensure the system is in good working order
and that the correct contacts are notified, the test procedure is defined in a subsequent section of this
guide on P. 19.
To add a security contact, please perform the following from within OTiS:
In the Data Grid, click the vessel name of the vessel you wish to update.
Upon clicking, the row will be highlighted with a darker grey, and the contacts panel will be active.
Here you will be able to: add using the Add Contact Button, delete by clicking the trashcan icon, and
finally enable or disable by checking or unchecking the tick box.
The back up batteries included in the SSAS are located in the lower levels of the antenna box and have a life
expectancy of up to 3 years. There are 8 bolts to unscrew in order to access the battery compartment. To
replace the batteries simply pull the connectors to the batteries, affix the new batteries in place, and finally
reattach the upper level of the antenna box chassis. Once complete dispose of used batteries appropriately.
To maintain integrity of the SSAS please close the Antenna Box. Ensure that Ships Power is removed prior to
undertaking the above procedure. You can check this by observing the Red LED’s on the PCB are not lit.
TEST PROCEDURE
In order to Test the SSAS you have two options:
Press and hold the Test Button and the Red LED will be extinguished.
A one time Supervisor Test alert will be sent with no need to reset the SSAS.
From within OTiS click the begin test link under the alert tab prior to the test being carried out.
When the alert is received, you will need to reset the alert from OTiS using the Reset Link under
the Alert Tab.
The OTiS test mode will be active for 90 minutes or until an alert is received.
To reset the SSAS you or the CSO will need to login to OTiS, navigate to the Alerts Tab, and Click the Reset
link for the vessel in alert.
Our standalone SSAS is designed, to be easily installed as all alert contacts are managed online.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Ensure all terminal blocks are tight and all wire jumpers are connected as per the detailed
wiring diagrams in the installation guide.
Please follow the LED Sequence Table below for what action to take with regards to the IDP
transmission Terminal Flash sequences.
Ensure that no outer bracket is obstructing the signal from the IDP Transmission Terminal.
The SSAS is designed to operate out in open water, if the vessel is in port we cannot guarantee
position reports as a super structure may be blocking the signal.
Confirm that the Alert Buttons break the circuit when pressed.
Ensure the alert zone wires that wrap around the DIN rail in the antenna box, which are connected
during manufacture are disconnected upon installation, as described in the “CONNECT ANTENNA
CABLE TO INTERFACE BOX” section on P. 10.
Check there are no type errors for the alert contact email address within OTiS.
Please ensure that your spam filter is not blocking our email address noreply@stratumfive.com.
If there are still issues in receiving the Email please contact StratumFive Support.
Check there are no type errors for the alert contact email address within OTiS.
The format of the contact number should be +(Country Code) (Telephone Number)
If there are still issues in receiving the SMS please contact StratumFive Support.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Perform continuity check on Alert Zones and ensure no line breaks whilst buttons are not
being pressed.
Ensure there are no loose contacts on the alarm lines or DIN rail.
Check the tamper switch arm is pushed down when antenna box lid is in place.
