1. INTRODUCTION
This document covers the procedure involved in the substructure pile and pile cap treatment
works.

1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this method statement is to provide a comprehensive step by step
guideline for substructure pile and pile cap treatment works.

1.2 Scope
Scope of this document includes preparation of surface for waterproofing membrane
application, pile and pile cap treatment for substructures. Consultant inspection will be
arranged as per the approved ITP.

3. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS


Any Terms, Abbreviations and Acronyms used in this document are defined in this section. The

5. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS


The table below provides specific information of the Equipment, Tools & Instruments deployed

7. SEQUENCE OF WORKS – SUBSTRUCTURE PILE HEAD TREATMENT


Work to be done in accordance with approved IFC drawing & project specification TS-32 & MOW Bahrain
specification at site.

7.1 Surface Preparation


 Concrete surface to be clean, smooth and shall be free from dust and foreign partials.
 The surface shall be completely cleaned from dust or any debris and made dry
(Preferably with air compressor)
 Any damages in concrete shall be rectified prior to the start of waterproofing works.
 Surface shall be prepared by sanding to remove rubbish and cement waste.
 Concrete surface must finish its curing period and there should not be any dampness in
concrete surface.
 Corner fillet shall be provided with cement mortar in order to avoid damages in
waterproofing membrane.

7.2 Waterproofing Application (Pile / Pile cap)


 Installation of membrane shall be as per manufacturers instruction and approved
waterproofing system reference 2210/11/4341 and IFC Drawing (Typical Pile & Pile Cap
connection) Rev. B.
 After the pipe cap trimming completed shall apply the 25mm average thickness
cementitious grout (Fosroc Supercast PC)
 All around rebar protection shall be provided with approved fosroc nitoproof 230 and
care shall be taken to avoid any water penetration.
 Pile head will be profiled with cementitious grout in order to receive waterproofing
membrane.

 Apply high penetrating bituminous primer to the entire area.


 Waterproofing membrane application shall proceed upon completion of primer
application.
 Installation of membrane shall be as per manufacturers instruction. Fix 2 layers 4mm
torch on, 260gsm polyester reinforced bituminous membrane to the entire area.

 On pile cap area will provided 50mm thick cement screed 1:3 mix protection layer and
on top of pile will provide 15mm epoxy grout (approved Fosroc supercast EPT)

8. EMERGENCY ARRANGEMENTS
 First aider and first aid kit must be available at the work site.

 Emergency contact numbers and procedures must be aware to all personnel on site.

 Follow safety precautions while working.

9. OTHER ASSOCIATED PLAN


The following plans are to be implemented in conjunction with this method statement:

 Site Layout Plans

 Emergency Response Plans – (included in the HSE plan).

10. HEALTH & SAFETY CONTROLS


The PCC Health and Safety Manual, Health and Safety plan shall apply to all work on Site. All
Personnel and workers involved in the works shall be made familiar with these documents. Only
Personnel who have received the Site-Specific Safety Induction from the PCC HSE Department

shall be allowed to access the Site and carry out work. Safety requirements which are
established by PCC must be instructed and complied by all personnel involved in the scope of
work. The Health and Safety Risk Assessment shall be informed and instructed to all involved
workers prior to commencing works. Contents of the Health and Safety Risk Assessment shall
be included in the Tool Box Talk.

10.1 Tool box talk


Prior to commencing daily activities or at the start of a new work shift, the Site Engineer
and/or the HSE Officer shall carry out a START briefing Talk instructing all personnel
involved in the scope of work of the potential hazards and the measures in place to mitigate
those hazards.

The Site Engineer and HSE officer shall keep records of the Tool Box Talk including
attendance sheet.

10.2 Emergency arrangements


In the event of an Emergency arising, the Emergency Response Organization should
respond in accordance to the HSE plan.

10.5 Environmental Arrangements


The Consortium’s environmental arrangements are set according to Construction
Environmental Management Plan - HSE plan. Project team shall include environmental
issues in site inductions within Safety, Health and Environmental Information. In-house HSE
induction training for all employees and newly assigned employees. The major
environmental impacts and mitigations as identified in energy works that are related to
environmental issues includes but not limited to:

 Noise and vibration (Silencer and damping, regular maintenance of tools and
equipment, provision of hearing protection, applying job rotation among the workers
etc).

 Air pollution (Enforce speed limits, regular maintenance of vehicles. Ensure driving
routes on site are as short as possible, turning off vehicles and equipment while not
in use, etc)

 Spill kits to be available at site

10.6 Additional HSE requirements


 Crew to wear visible vest. and appropriate PPEs

 Adequate supervision by supervisor and safety officer

 Sign board must be placed at required location.

 If the work needs to be carried out with scaffolding, it must be checked and
inspected.

 Proper housekeeping carried out.

 Proper rest to be provided and adequate water for workers to be provided at site.

11. QUALITY CONTROL


All the records shall be maintained as stated in the inspection and test plan and compliance
to project quality requirements, standard specification.

12. MONITORING AND REVIEW


This method statement will be monitored through the monthly monitoring program. The initial
review of these works will be carried out within the first 2 weeks to ensure that the planned
processes are sufficient in executing the works within program and without effect to the H&S
of personnel or to the local environment. Any corrections required will be noted through the
change management process and the method statement updated.
