TERM 1

WEEK 2 SPIRITUAL
JOIN THE LORD'S ARMY
Matthew 4:18-22; 2 Timothy 2:1, 3-5
The word “army” is used to describe many things including a large group of soldiers
who are trained to fight on land. The army of the Lord is therefore a large number of
young students specially organized to continue the mission of our Lord Jesus, which is
to save the lost. Jesus paid the price for man’s redemption and thereafter
commissioned an army to continue the mission.
1. Real Need for the Lord's Army
Matthew 9:35-38; Exodus 32:26
Jesus in His earthly ministry went about villages and cities preaching the gospel.
Seeing the multitudes to reach out to, He prayed for more labourers (Matthew 9:36). At
a time, He sent out His twelve disciples to preach. Later, He added seventy more (Luke
10:1). Before His ascension, He expanded the areas to cover, “But ye shall receive
power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me
both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of
the earth” (Acts 1:8). This therefore requires more preachers. Everyone to cover his
community and school. We cannot but join the Lord’s army to fulfil the great
commission and proclaim the Christian faith.
2. Responsibilities of the Lord's Army
Matthew 4:19; Mark 16:15-20

The duty of soldiers in the Lord's army is to preach the gospel and proclaim the
Christian faith. To achieve this, the militant gospel army must be equipped with the
following:
i. Conversion: Any youth intending to preach to others must have already experienced
Christ himself. “The husbandman that laboureth must be the first partaker of the
fruits” (2 Timothy 2:6).
ii. Conviction: He must have a strong, unshakable belief in God and the totality of His
word. “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in
faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:20).
iii. Compassion: “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion
on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no
shepherd” (Matthew 9:36).
iv. Consecration: “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for
necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”
(1Corinthians 9:16).

3. Responding to the call to join the Lord's Army

Matthew 4: 18 – 22; Acts 16:1-3
Every Christian students is called to be a soldier in the Lord’s army from the time he is
born again. We are to respond to the call without delay. God is not happy with idle,
lazy or unfruitful soldiers. Join the army of the Lord, today. There are bountiful
rewards for you here on earth and in heaven.
