electrode name length of electrode time required to melt the wax

zinc 10.5cm 83s
copper 11cm 52s

C: Data Processing:

E: Conclusion and evaluation:

1. To conclude, all 3 compounds had different melting points. Sucrose had a very low

melting point while copper and NaCl (salt) had high melting points. Sucrose had the

lowest melting point because it’s a covalent bond (a bond formed between non-metals).

Covalent bonds tend to have low melting points because of their weak bond forces. On

the other hand, NaCl is an ionic compound (a bond formed between a metal and non-

metal), and copper is a metallic compound. Both ionic and metallic compounds have

relatively high melting points due to their strong ionic bond.

2. As solids, ionic compounds can’t conduct electricity as the ions cannot move freely.

Although, in aqueous solutions (electrolytes), ionic compounds are good conductors and
can conduct electricity. NaCl is an ionic compound. As a solid, NaCl wasn’t a good

conductor of electricity because it’s ions couldn’t move freely. Although, when NaCl was

dissolved in water (turned to an aqueous solution) it became a good conductor of

electricity because its ions were free to move.

Not stand close to the fire because it could Next time, I shouldn’t stand near the gas as it

harm you made me dizzy

Not touch any equipment I could’ve been prepared and brought my lab
