Computer Systems and Troubleshooting

GROUP NAME: ITC GROUP 10

SECTION: BSIT - 101I
DATE: 04/01/2022

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1. This is a group activity. Groupings will be done at random for this one. You
also need to have a Zoom meeting as you accomplish the tasks and insert
images (at least 3) here. The Zoom meeting link (Google Drive – make sure
that the video is downloadable) should be submitted here.
2. Choose the appropriate OS for you group (Windows 7, 8 or 10)
3. Identify your OS by inserting a picture or screenshot of the OS that you will
be using.
4. Answer items that fit your OS of choice.
5. Insert pictures on items where you need to perform an action while answer
those items with questions (in blue font). Your responses/answers must be in
ALL CAPS.
6. This is a group activity. You need to name ALL members of your group below
and their attendance (present/absent) when the activity was held. I am hoping
that you will be fair in the attendance. Also, make sure that your submission is
in PDF format to avoid distortion of the pages upon submission to Canvas.

OS Used: WINDOWS 10

Group Members (Maximum of 5 per group):

1. ASEDILLO, SNOOKEY CHARM
2. PEJI, AARON JULIAN
3. FERMAN, SHERWIN KARL
4. RODRIQUEZ, MARCUS DAUNTE
5. FLORES, ABBIGAIL

Objective:
To understand how to calculate and view the amount of video memory
Parts:
A computer with Windows 7, 8, or 10 installed
Procedure:
Complete the following procedure and answer the accompanying questi
ons.
Note:
This process depends on the video adapter manufacturer. You may need
to modify the initial steps to find the details for the video memory.

1. Power on the computer and log in to Windows.

2. The monitor properties and the video adapter properties are needed to answer the q
uestions. A
common way to access both is through Device Manager. Also, the Display Control Pa
nel category
can be used. You may need to select the Advanced settings, Change display settings,
Display adapter
properties, or another link. Some video adapters have their own Control Panel.

3. Answer the questions that follow:

a. How many bits are used for color? Note that if 30 or more bits are used, just
use 24 bits as your
calculation for this exercise. The extra bits are normally for color depth.
32 BITS

b. How many colors can be displayed using the number found in the first quest
ion? Refer to the chapter if necessary.

c. What is the current resolution? Note that this number is listed by x by x pixe
ls.
1920 x 1080

d. Calculate the amount of video memory required by multiplying the two num
bers that make up
the resolution. These numbers are the answers found in the second question.
For example, if the resolution is listed as 1920×1080, the calculation would be
1920 × 1080 = 2,073,600. Write your total.

1920 X 1080 = 2,073,600

e. Take the resulting total and multiply by the number of color bits (the total fo
und in the first question).

2073600 X 24 = 49,766,400

f. Take the result of the previous step, TOTAL 2, and divide by eight to determ
ine the minimum amount of video memory needed in bytes.

49,766,400 / 8 = 6,220,800
g. How much total available graphics memory is shown?
14304 MB

h. Is any dedicated video memory used? If so, how much?

6144 MB

i. Is any shared system memory used? If so, how much?

8160 MB

4. When finished, close any open windows.
