1.How does the author introduce the topic of his essay?
 The author introduces the topic of his essay by first introducing its title which is Mansion
of Many Languages. Where in you can easily guest that it’s about different kinds of
language. By narrating what his mentor said. The author used a lot of situations and
personal experiences. He also adds some examples to support his essay.
2.In paragraph 4, the author asks the question “Why? “This signals that he is explaining
something. What exactly is the phenomenon he is explaining?
 In paragraph 4 the author explaining that it will give a lot of advantage to Filipinos when
they know different languages. Because just like the example, where they hire a lot more
Filipinos to teach different languages because of their qualifications to teach. That
because they are already familiar with the cultures of different Asian countries which will
not give them a hard time to teach different people. And because Filipinos will grab the
opportunity even in a lower pay scale.
3.What are the explanations he provides for the phenomenon you identified in no.2 above? Give
three answers.
 First, Filipino teachers will accept a pay scale lower than of their Western counterparts.
Second, they are conversant with American popular culture, a happy (or unhappy) result
of decades of American colonialism and neo-colonialism. Third, they are still Southeast
Asians beneath their skin, and are thus familiar with Asian cultural practices, whether
said or unsaid.
4.In the paragraph 7, the author writes, “let me explain”. What exactly in the phenomenon he is
explaining.
 In paragraph 7 the author explaining that we can effectively learn different language if we
have enough books to use and trained teachers. Having a books or materials will help us
to learn easily. Also learning will be easier if have trained teachers that will teach us. And
we can learn a lot of languages if we have this.And will help us to be connected or
communicate with the other people.

three answers.
 One, they had very good teachers in both languages. Two they inhabited the worlds of
both languages. Three, they have gone beyond the false either-or mentality that hobbled
their parents.
6.How does the author end his essay?
 The author ended his essay by summarizing his essay. He said the phrase “The
Philippines is a multi-lingual paradise. “He is telling that we live in a place where people
know or acquire a lot of different languages. That if keep learning different languages it
will gives us a lot of benefits and advantage. That we Filipinos are living multi-lingual
people.

many languages is an advantage for the Philippines and to Filipino. Do you agree with the
author? Discuss your agreement or disagreement with a partner.
 Yes, I agree. Having many languages is advantage for the Philippines and to Filipinos
because for example, like what the author said in the essay that with the opening of
ASEAN there are a lot of Filipinos that are being hired to teach different languages. And
that gives a big benefit to the Philippines and Filipinos because they are not just teaching
but it will be a big help for them financially. Having many languages will help us to be
connected to others. And as you learn new language, you’ll also be able to learn different
cultures of the others.
2.Was the author fully explained the phenomenon he chose to explain? Discuss your answer with
a partner. Make sure to provide support for your answer with specific strategies used by the
author in making his explanation.
 I think yes. Because as it shown in the essay, he gives a lot of things to support his topic
or his essay. He introduces his essay by narrating what his mentor said. He tells about the
advantages of having many languages by citing example just like the ASEAN where they
hire a lot of Filipino to teach different language. He tells some of his personal experience
where it shows that we can effectively learn different kinds of languages if we have
enough books or material and trained teachers.
