Andover Youth Center Expectations

Check-In Expectations
1. ALL middle school students in the Andover YMCA Community Center building must be checked in at Youth Center to
remain in the building. Students who are members of a team that uses the facility, or are YMCA members may use the
corresponding areas without checking into Youth Center.

2. Once a Youth Center student has left the building, he/she will not be re-admitted until the next school day. Exceptions to
this will be allowed for staff-supervised activities held outside of the building, and if given direct permission from a Youth
Center staff member.

Behavior Expectations
1. Everyone in Youth Center (students, staff, and volunteers) will behave in a manner that is representative of YMCA
programming. Behaviors that do not follow the Y Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility will have
consequences determined by YMCA staff.

2. Physical/verbal interactions between or among Youth Center participants will be respectful and caring towards one
another. The “Golden Rule” will apply in all interactions. Students will honor any requests to stop behaviors towards
other students that have been acknowledged as hurtful or disrespectful, regardless of the intention.

3. All language and activity will remain YMCA appropriate in ALL areas of the YMCA and Youth Center—this includes
conversations, physical touching, music/videos on personal devices, etc.
4. Volume and activity in Youth Center areas (program rooms, gym, hallway, and Subway area) will not be disruptive to the
YMCA/Community Center business or members—this includes Subway’s business/customers as well.

5. Property of students, staff, volunteers, members and of the facility will be respected. Permission is required to use
property that does not belong to the student. When using property of others or of the facility, students will use it for
the intended purpose only. Property must be returned in the same condition as was given out; and it can be requested
back as the owner sees fit.
6. All students will be responsible for keeping track of their own property and for cleaning up after themselves. The Youth
Center areas should be left in the same condition (if not better) than when the students arrived. Garbage and activity
supplies will be cleaned up after use.

In addition, all students are expected to follow the Andover YMCA and Andover Community Center Codes
of Conduct. YMCA and/or Community Center Staff shall be the sole judge of what constitutes as
inappropriate or disruptive behavior. Failure to uphold these expectations will result in disciplinary action
or expulsion from the facility.
