Don’t go straight
home after attending
a wake

"Pagpag" is the term for this superstition (the shaking off of dirt). In
the context of a wake, it refers to leaving the wake and traveling
somewhere else before returning home in order to shake off the spirit
of the dead and prevent it from following you.
Another believes that after saying farewell, the relatives of the dead
shouldn't leave guests at the door since doing so represents leaving
them at their own death.
while it's common to serve food during wakes in the Philippines,
whether it be heavy meals or light snacks, guests shouldn't make the
mistake of taking any (even a little piece of candy) home with them, as
doing so is an indication that they're courting bad luck.
