ACTIVITY 1

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Introduction

There are 4 distinct stages of growing corn: planting, germination, vegetative, and
reproductive. We'll break down each of the corn growth stages in detail to prepare you for your
harvest. Now that the seed is in the soil, it will begin to absorb water and begin to swell. When
enough water has been absorbed and the soil temperature is favorable, germination will occur.
The first root called the radicle will then emerge. Breaking through the soil surface to maturity,
the plant will undergo several growth stages. These stages are separated into two groups:
vegetative and reproductive. The point that separates these two groups is the appearance of
silks. Reproductive stage, this stage occurs when silks are visible outside the husks. The silks
serve the purpose of capturing pollen that falls from the tassel. The captured pollen grain
moves down the silk to the ovule, where pollination occurs. This process takes about 24 hours.

Methodology

In this activity, the group of students were allocated on their distinct field and they are
able to perform land preparation including weeding, plowing, and making of rows to be more
favorable in planting. And after preparing the field we considered applying fertilizer in the
allotted field before planting. Also, we will have to plant corn in about ten plants each of the
members. Those ten plants will be measure on the first 7 days and up to 35 days of the
vegetative stage. Accordingly, the growth comparison of corn will only measures to the
following measurements e.g. height of plants, diameter of leaves, length of leaves, and the
number of leaves and the objective is to identify the difference. Hence, the main purpose of
activity will only start when each of us in the group complete the planting stage and variety of
corn to b used must be agreed upon. Then, as days passed by the corn germinated and the
collection of data starts on the first 7 days of a corn plant. Together with the group we do
weeding after the corn plant makes up their first emergence. Since, nurturing the plant is the
only thing that we can help them to support the growth and development of the plant. We
acknowledged the needs of a corn and at the 14 days time of collecting data we notice that
what if this is the perfect time to again apply fertilizer and fortunately the application is given to
corn plant. The result was successful their were sudden changes in terms of measurement, the
long gap filled with the corn plant after applying the fertilizer. On the 21 days DAP, we again
perform some weeding practices before it will harm the plant and the reason why we pull the
weeds on the field it is because they were the carrier of insects and pest especially larvae. Day's
28 and 35 will also measured on the same procedure as well.
