Kal shaam ko mai apne ghar par tha.

Yesterday evening I was at my home.
Achanak kisi ne darwaje ki ghanti bajayi.
Suddenly someone rang the door bell.
Maine darwaja khola.
I opened the door.
Darwaje par mere padosi ki beti thi.
There was my neighbour’s daughter at the door.
Maine poochha kya huya?
I asked, “What happened?”
Usne kaha,”Kya aap mere papa ko samjha sakte hain ki
wo mujhe dance sikhne ke liye allow Karen”.
She said, “Could you make my father understand to
allow me to learn dance?”
Ab tak maine kisi bade ko samjhaya nahi tha lekin uske
bahte huye aansuyon ne mujhe aisa karne par majboor
kar diya.

I had not made any elder person understand so far but
her dropping tears made me do so.
Maine uske papa ko samjhane ki koshish ki lekin uske
papa ne kaha, “Main eklauta kamane wala hun”.
I tried to make her father understand but her father
said,”I am the sole breadwinner”
Mujhe is ghar ki marmmat karwani hai.
I have to get this house renovated.
Ek saal se Ac kharab hai.
The AC has been out of order for one year.
Mujhe ise jald se jald repair karwana hai.
I have to get it repaired as soon as possible.
Ye sab kuchh karwane ke liye mujhe paise chahiyen.
I need money to get all these done. / In order to get all
these done, I need money.
Agar main iske dance class par paisa kharch karunga to
ye sab kaam kaun karwayega?
If I spend money on her dance class, who will get all
these done?

Unki baaton me dam to tha.
His point was strong./ His point was
considerable/What he said was convincing/noticeable.
Maine kaha, “Main khud ek dancer hun.
I said, “I am myself a dancer.
Agar aapko bura na lage to ek padosi hone ke naate
main isko bina fee ke dance sikha sakta hun.”
If you don’t mind, being a neighbour I can teach her
dance without any fee.
Yah sunkar unki aankhon me ek chamak aa gayi lekin
meri jawani ko dekhar unke man me shak bhi paida ho
gaya.
Hearing this, he got a glint in his eyes but seeing my
youth/young age a doubt germinated in his mind.
Unhone kaha, “iske paas to time hi nahi hain kuchh
sikhne ke liye”.
He said, “she doesn’t have even time to learn anything.
Ladki ne kaha, “Time hoga bhi kaise, meri maa mujhe
kapde dhulwati hai.

The girl said, “How would I have time!” My mother
makes me wash clothes.
Subah shaam mujhse khana banwati hai.
She makes me make food morning and evening.
Mujhe kabhi bhi dance par focus karne nahi deti hai.
She never lets me focus on dance.
Mujhe kisi bhi gharelu kaam ko karne me help nahi
karti hai.
She doesn’t help me do any domestic chores.
Achanak uski maa aa gayi aur kaha, “main tujhse koi
bhi gharelu kaam nahi karwaungi siway Dinner banane
ke”.
Suddenly her mother came and said, I will not make
you do any domestic chores except making dinner”
Main dinner banane me teri madad bhi karungi.
I will even help you make dinner.
Meri taraph dekhte huye uski maa ne kaha, “beta! Tum
isko dance sikha do lekin badle me tumhe hamare
saath raat ka khana khana padega.”

Looking at me, her mother said, “My son! Plz teach her
dance but in return you will have to take dinner with
us.”
Maine haami bhar di.
I agreed.
Uske papa ne kaha, “ Kya tum is ghar ko marmmat
karwane me meri madad karoge?”
Her father said, “could you help me get this house
renovated”?
Haan kahte huye maine unko tanaw mukt hone ka
ehasas dilaya.
Saying yes, I made him feel relaxed./tension free.
Dance sikhane se pahle maine apne music system ko
repair kara liya.
I got my music system repaired before teaching dance.
Maine ghar ke har kone ko saaf karwaya.
I got every recess of the house cleaned.
Pahle din maine usse moon walk karwaya.
Very first day, I made her do moonwalk.

Phir maine usse gane par lip-sync karwaya.
Then I made her do lip sync on a song.
Ek din maine usse poochha, “Kya kisi ne kabhi tumhe
propose kiya”
One day I asked her, “Did anyone ever propose you?”

Usne kaha, “Maine un sab ladkon ko pitwa diya

jinhone mujhe propose karne ki koshish kit hi.”
She said, “I got all those boys beaten who had tried to
propose me.”
Kai ladkon se maine maafinama bhi likhwaya.
I made some boys write apology letters.
Kuchh ladkon ko maine college se expel karwa diya.
I got some boys expelled from the college.
Usne kabhi kisi ladki ko kisi galat ladke ke jaal me
phansne nahi diya.
She never let any girl get trapped by any boy.
Iske support se ek ladki ne ek chhichhore ko girfatar
karway tha.

A girl got a ruffian arrested with her support.
Yah sunkar mere andar ka aashiqu mar gaya aur maine
khud ko is propose na karne ke liye samjha liya.
Hearing this, the lover inside me died and I made
myself understand not to propose her.
