HISTORY OF MAINIT WATER RESERVOIR (LOT NO.

2)

The site of Mainit Water Reservoir was originally intended as a replacement site
of the Mainit National High School. The original site of the Mainit National High School
(now Lot No. 1889) was totally devastated by typhoon Louise in 1964. Soon the faculty
members, the parents and other Mainitnons joined hands for a new school building to
be erected. A lot was donated, the municipal government appropriated an amount plus
an aid from national government, Municipal High School was relocated at Barangay
Magsaysay (Lot No. 2) under the supervision of  Mr. Juan Azarcon which was
succeeded by Mr. Simeon  Sevandal, Mr. Benjamin  Quinto and Mr. Cezar S. Mozar.

On June 1977, the school was converted into Mainit National High School by

virtue of section 7-1 {4} of Commonwealth Act No. 246 as amended under Letter of
Implementation No. 28 dated December 1975. In 1984, another super typhoon named
Nitang destroyed the school buildings at Barangay Magsaysay (Lot No. 2) which
prompted the whole populace to transfer to the site (Lot No. 1889) which at that time the
first floor of the main building was already completed.

Since 1984, Lot No. 2 was abandoned for a long time. Now, when the
Municipality of Mainit decided to establish a municipal water system, sometime in 1995,
it erected a water reservoir in the present site. From 1995 to present, the land is being
utilized as water reservoir of the town.

Finally, on December 13, 2021, Ma. Teresa M. Real, the Schools Division
Superintendent of Surigao del Norte executed an Affidavit of Waiver in favour to the
Municipality of Mainit to formally convey the land to the Municipality of Mainit.
