CCE Fountrams 2022 Chess Event

TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. The new FIDE Laws of Chess after January 1, 2020 pertaining to the new Laws on Rapid Chess shall
govern this tournament.

2. This tournament shall be a single-round robin Rapid with time control of 15 minutes + 5 seconds
increment.

3. ILLEGAL VIOLATIONS

1st offense – add 2 extra minutes to the opponent

2nd offense – forfeiture of the game

ILLEGAL VIOLATIONS are as follows:

a) Illegal movement of pieces – completed

b) Exposing the King under attack – completed

c) Complete promotion without exchanging the pawn for a piece

d) PRESSING THE CLOCK WITHOUT HAVING A MOVE.

e) Using both hands in executing a move, capturing, castling, and promotion.

f) Capturing the King – completed

4. INFRINGEMENTS:

1st Offense – yellow card (verbal warning)

2nd Offense – yellow card (add 2 extra minutes to the opponent)

3rd Offense – red card (forfeiture of the game)

INFRINGEMENTS are as follows:

a) Stopping the clock without re-establishing displaced pieces.

b) Pressing the clock using a piece.

c) Moving or capturing piece and pressing the clock using the other hand.

d) Touch move rule irregularities except when the King is under attack

e) Anything that can distract your opponent including noisy players.

f) Using excessive force in handling the clock.

7. The use of mobile phone and any means of electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited while the
game is on progress. It should be turned off.

8. Applications regarding a win with a possible series of legal moves must be observed (self-mate
must be implemented).

9. Right after the game, players must arrange the pieces (win or lost).

10. Pairings shall be generated by the Swiss Manager pairing program. There will be NO PROTEST ON
PAIRINGS.

11. The decision of the chief arbiter on a point of law shall be final.

12. Team Tie-breaks will be as follows:

a. Direct encounter according to match points

b. Buchholz (sum of team points of opponents)

c. Median Buchholz

d. Sonneborn – Berger (with real points)

e. More number of victories

13. The organizers reserve the right to amend or alter any provision of the aforementioned rules and
regulations for the success and interest of the tournament.
