Two Chess Little Stars Shine in Division Selection of

Athletes 2023

THE two athletes are Mateo Xander Tabamo of Pedro
Sa. Baculio Elementary School and Justine Rey Ebajay
of St. Joseph Academy. Both schools are located in El
Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.

In the Rapid Elementary Category, Ebajay

was the champion under individual in the Rapid game
championship. For the Blitz Category, Tabamo won as Justine Rey
individual champion coached by ma’am Rosela Ebajay
Bahian. They automatically qualified for the NMRAA
2023 tentatively to be held at Lanao del Norte on Mateo Xander Tabamo
April 24-29, 2023.

The Division Selection of Athletes 2023

occurred on February 11, 2023.

During Division Selection of Athletes 2023 in

chess event held at PSB Elementary School, Justine
Rey Ebajay St. Joseph Academy a grade 4 pupil won
with a perfect score out of 5 rounds in Rapid with the
time control of 20+5 seconds increment per move
and awarded as a Champion (individual) while Mateo
Tino Salabsab
Xander Tabamo of PSB Elementary School won 3½
TM
points out of 5 rounds and top 4 only of the particular
category. On the other hand, in Blitz game category
with the time control of 3+2 seconds increment per
move, Mateo Xander Tabamo a grade 3 pupils of PSB
Elementary School had a tremendous revenge where
he won perfect score out of 5 rounds and became a
Champion in Blitz Category (individual). Still with the
combined points of both Rapid and Blitz, the two-
neophyte rising star Juntine Rey Ebajay of SJA got on
top while Mateo Xander Tabamo ranked No.2 and
they qualified for Palarong Pampook 2023. Before the
actual competition as a Tournament Manager and at
the same time a coach and a trainer itself of these
two young kids, I conducted an intensive training
(school-based, and division-wide centralized training
of the Division of El Salvador City

Elementary School seeks to increase learner participation and reduce dropouts and improve education quality in
