Dear GSIS Parents and Students,

Greetings from the secondary office. I hope that you all

had a great week and if you were able to attend the
Commencement Ceremony at any point in the evening on
Friday that you enjoy celebrating one of the first final
events to close the school year. It was truly amazing, yet
bittersweet to celebrate with the Class of 2023. It was
also amazing to see how our future graduates came out to
support the graduates as a loving and supportive
community.

Thank you to every single KNIGHT who contributed to

making that event a complete success!! It takes a village!!

I would like to thank my Senior Retreat Team led by Mr.

Krugler, Mr. Kalua, and 6 other chaperones who took 48
amazing senior class members on an amazing time of
solitude and time of connection and farewell before
graduation. It was absolutely a beautiful time.

Grade 6-10 teachers and students, I want to give you a shout-out for remaining diligent in your
studies with all the excitement and attention on the seniors. I appreciate your focus on finishing
strong and preparing for final exams. Please know we are mindful of your time of celebration and
events to come to celebrate your well-deserved efforts. I am proud of you always!!

Parents, who are Rising Grade 9-12 parents please participate virtually on May 31, 2023, at 6:00 PM
in the Association of Christian School Conference Presentation. This will be an important information
session to continue to actualize our GSIS Mission and Educational Philosophy. This meeting will serve
to inform you regarding an international membership GSIS seeking which will provide our students
more opportunities to compete internationally both academically, and athletically, in performing arts,
and co-curricular. Please see the Zoom link at the end of the letter for Parents and Students to attend
the virtual meeting.
Parents, as we prepare to close out the year, we would like to have your feedback to help us reflect on
the academic year and plan an outlook for the incoming year. Your feedback will be helpful. Please
complete the survey by Saturday, June 3, 2023. Secondary End of Year Teacher Survey.

Parents, do not hesitate to sign your GSIS Knight up for one of the summer school sessions offer this
year. We look forward to engaging your students with activities to enrich and develop their skills in
areas that might be of interest to them to prepare them for the academic year SY 2324. Please see
details inside. You still can sign up.

Please have a look at the Table of Contents for the details for The Week Ahead, May 29 - June 2, 2023.

SOPHOMORE PANEL WITH CLASS OF 2023, MAY 29, 202
On Monday, May 29,
2023 at 12:15 PM, we
will have several newly
inducted Alumni from
the Class of 2023 to
present a discussion
panel for our
Sophomore students in
grade 10 to share
information regarding
their experiences as
Diploma Program
students and the senior
preparation year. We
believe that this will be
of great benefit to our
incoming cohort of
Diploma Program
students to have to hear
firsthand experiences to
guide them and help
them mentally plan for
the year ahead.
GRADES 9-11 FINAL EXAM GUIDELINES
All students in grades 9 - 11 will begin final exams on June 2, 2023. The full examination period will
occur from June 2nd and June 5- 9th. Each day, students may have 2 to 3 exams or none.

If a student is absent during an exam for some reason, they should speak with the Secondary
Principal directly to arrange a make-up time for their exam and provide documentation for the
absence.

If a student has two exams which are scheduled during the same exam block of time this is called a
“conflict exam.”

Conflict exams could cause a student to have three exams in one day, but not every day. In the event a
student has more than two exams, they should notify the Secondary Principal for an alternate time for
the third exam.

EXAM PROCEDURES
1. Students are asked to arrive for their exam 10 minutes before the exam begins to GYM B.
2. Students may bring only pens/pencils and instruments needed for the exam (i.e. calculator)
and a water bottle to their seat. All other items (i.e. book bags, notes, laptops, iWatch, etc.)
must remain in GYM A.
3. Attendance will be taken after the exam has begun.
4. Students will be allowed 2 hours for the distribution, exam, and collection of exams.
5. Students will remain in the gymnasium until the end of the exam period for all students.

EXAM PERIOD ATTENDANCE AND EARLY DISMISSALS

● Students are expected to be present for each exam.
● If a student does not have an exam it is acceptable, and it is the parents’ choice to allow them
to remain at home on that day.
● There is one day in the schedule for Freshmen (Grade 9) and Sophomores (Grade 10) in which
exams are not scheduled. Some students, especially Junior DP students, may have more than
one break or interruption to consecutive exams due to the different exams offered.
● If students are at school, they will be assigned a study hall until their exam time or early
dismissal/parent pick-up. Students will not be allowed recess or other activities due to the
whole campus being in exam mode.
● During the GRADE 9-11 Exam Period, GRADES 9-11 will be allowed with parent permission to
arrive at 9:50AM if they have an exam at 10:15 AM exam, or they may depart school early if
they are not scheduled for a 1:15 PM exam, once they are done for the day.
● ALL PARENTS - need to complete this STUDENT EARLY RELEASE CONSENT FORM if they
consent to their child having an early release or late arrival. Attendance for Grades 9-11 will
not be tracked for credit, however, it will be tracked for accountability. If the student and
parent have not submitted this form for our records, they will be required to attend the
regularly scheduled exam sessions and/or report to a study hall with teacher supervision.
Penalties for absences without the form will be in place beginning June 2, 2023; June 5-9,
2023.
● If a student is absent during an exam for some reason, they should speak with me directly to
arrange a make-up time for their exam and provide documentation for the absence.

TEXTBOOK COLLECTION
Before each exam, a cart will be posted outside the exam site to collect any textbooks that have not
been returned to the library due to additional time needed for studying. Grade 9-11 students need to
make sure they have an all clear account by June 9, 2022 to ensure they are not locked out of their
PowerSchool account to view final grades or request transcripts or records.

END-OF-YEAR POWERSCHOOL AND REPORTING

Students and parents will be able to access final end-of-the-year progress in courses beginning
Thursday, the 14th at 4:00 PM.
