AUTHOR
VISITS
The author of Looking for Emily,
Fiona Longmuir, visited as part
of the Paisley Book Festival. 30
pupils from different classes
attended for a 1-hour talk, during
which the author read some of her
own book.
Fiona read the book as a choose
your own adventure story and had
the S1’s attending take a vote for
every twist in the story. The book
is a story of mystery in which the
main character Lily, stumbles
upon the Museum of Emily. The
Museum is full of the belongings
of a girl named Emily who years
ago vanished without a trace.
(Written by a pupil who attended
the event)

Graeme Armstrong gave a highly thought-provoking talk to a group

of 30 S4-S6’s. Graeme is a Times bestselling author from Airdrie.
His teenage years were spent within Scotland’s ‘young team’ gang
culture. After reading English as an undergraduate at the University of
Stirling, he completed a Master’s in Creative Writing. He is currently
undertaking a PhD at the University of Strathclyde.
His debut novel, The Young Team, is based upon his experiences.
Each pupil left with a signed copy of the book supplied by the Paisley
Book Festival.
Pupil Feedback from the event - “The assembly made me think a lot
about life, for example don’t take drugs you’ll be addicted afterwards.
Don’t start fights to be cool. You don’t have to be in a Young Team and
you need to choose the right person that will always have your back.
The talk made me think a lot, don’t throw your life away”
