Topic
Addition and Subtraction of three-digit numbers.
Title: Fast-Tes
Introduction
We are tasked to find a boring topic that we are going to present with the use of games
(Gamification) and we have to give it a fun and enjoyable twist. we all know that addition
and subtraction of numbers is not a boring topic to students because it is the basic
operations in mathematics but when we asked some students, they said that it becomes
boring when they are solving Three-digit numbers that is why we choose addition and
subtraction of three-digit numbers.
at the begging of our gamification, the first thing that we did is to manage the class properly
so that the class will not mess up, and we arrange the chairs lined up and we set up our
PowerPoint presentation so that we can start and explain to the students the mechanics of
the game and what are the things that they are going to do, and of course, the most
important part is the rules of the game and after arranging and explaining what they are
going to do that is the time that we divided the students into two groups.
This gamification is like the game pass the message, but we added some mechanics that we
think will much more exciting and fun.
The mechanics of the game is we are flashing questions on the screen and then the chosen
student per group at the last of their chair will be the one who will answer the given
problem, after solving the problem he/she will pass the message next to him silently and
when the answer is in the front, what the student will do is to write the answer to the
whiteboard given and tap the bell and raise their answer and those who did not tap the bell
even if they raised the whiteboard first and their answer is correct that is still considered
wrong and not counted on their points.
And the highlight of this game is the materials we did Called the “Pull up and down” we
have 3 balls with different colors and weights (RED, GREEN, AND YELLOW) color red and
yellow are the lighter balls and green is the heavy one the group who got a right answer
will get one ball on the black bag without looking on in and the ball that they got will go to
the other group and whoever reaches the top first will be the winner of the game.
As a teacher, you must think of some ways and strategies how to catch the attention and be
an effective teacher to your students and I can say that This gamification will be a good
activity/strategy for students who are boring with the topic because students are learning
and enjoying at the same time.
