B. Prayer

Everyone, let's pray and feel the presence of our (The learners will pray)
Lord.

Greetings

Good Morning class!

Good Morning Teacher!
So, how are you today class?

Are you feeling good?

That’s great! It’s nice to hear that you are all fine
Yes, Teacher!
and good.
We are feeling good today!
Thank you! You may now take your seats. So are
you ready for this day?

It’s great.

Checking Attendance Yes, sir!

I am going to check your attendance. If I call your (Students will say “Present”)
name, you have to say “Present” if you are here.
Alright! I’m happy that no one is absent for
today. Good job!

Review/Drill

What is the missing number in these patterns?

Answer key:

18, 24, 30, 36, ___, ___, ___

42, 48, 54
11, 14, 17, 20, ___, ___, ___
23, 26, 29

Thank you! I am happy that you have listened in

our previous discussion, and you still remember
what our topic.

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

Motivation

Weekdays are usually destined for school and

learning, weekends are for rest days.
Teacher, we are having quality time with family.
What are you doing when weekends?

That’s great! usually weekends for some people

are for completing their task, are you like them? Yes, teacher.

Are you helping your parents with some

household chores? Yes, teacher.

Okay that’s good! After helping you parents, (Students giving their example)
what are the usual things that you do?

Thank you! So, how long did you spend on that

activity? (Students giving their example)
You spend too much time on that but, make sure
if you do that thing you should always consider
some other thing.

Remember time is always important, we should

always use our time wisely and try to practice Yes Teacher!
doing things and completing tasks early. That is a
very important thing.

There is a group of friends named Alice's group.

Alice’s group started working on their Math

project at 8:15 am. They finished at 8:50 am. How
long did it take Alice’s group to finish the Math
project?

How many minutes did it take them to work from

8:15 am to 8:50 am? Teacher, the group of alice took 35 minutes to
finish the project.

Okay, Thank you!

How did you get the answer? Can you show me (The student will show their own solution on how
how did you get it? they get the answer)

Thank you! So, let us use a clock model to show

the time.

Presentation

What is the time in the clock?

Very good!

That is the time when alice’s group started Teacher, it’s 8:15
working on their project at Math.
How about this one, what is the time in the
clock?

Teacher, it’s 8:50

Very good!

That’s the time when alice group finished the

Math project.

How do we know how long does Alice group

spend their time doing the task?

(Students raising their hands)

Thank you! again, what is the time when they Teacher, it’s 8:15 am.
started working on their project?

Thankyou, how about the end process of heir

work Teacher, it’s 8:50 am.

Now, how do we get the time, how long they Teacher, we need to count the number from the
spent working on their project? time started up to end of the time.

Okay thank you! Let’s find out how do we get the

time elapsed.

Here’s another problem. What if they started (Students will show their solutions and answers )
working at 1:50 pm and finished at 2:30 pm?

How long did they spend working on the project?

Can you solve the problem?

Here is another way how we can solve the
problem.

Step 1- Subtract the hours: 2 - 1 = 1

Step 2- Subtract the minutes: 30 – 50 =?

So, we can’t subtract 30 from 50 because it is

lower that 50, we regroup the time, borrowing
one hour from 2.

Given: 1:50 pm

2:30 pm

Subtract 1 hour from 2: 2 – 1 = 1

Covert 1 hour to 60 minutes

Add 60 minutes to 30: 60 + 30 = 90

Subtract 50 from 90: 90 – 50 =40

Therefore, the group of alice took 40 minutes to

finish the project.

(Students will answer)

Let’s try to solve for the elapsed time.

Time started Time ended Elapsed time

Answer key:

3:55 am 4:50 am 55 minutes

09 minutes
2:55 am 3:04 am
57 minutes
5:11 am 6:08 am
Thank you!

How about if the time started and elapsed time is

given, how do we get the time ended?

Let’s try to solve this one.

Time started: 6:05 pm

Time ended: ?

Elapsed time: 35 minutes

(Students will try to solve the given problem)

(Teacher will explain how to solve the problem if

students did not get the answer)

Okay, thank you!

It seems like you already know how to get the

elapsed time.

Developing The Lesson/Discussion

Now, I will be presenting a word problem and

you need to find the elapsed time and missing
time.

Dad says dinner will be ready in 35 minutes. It’s

5:30 p.m. now. What time will dinner be ready?

Becky is meeting her friend at the library at 12:45

p.m. It takes her 25 minutes to get to the library.
What time will she need to leave her house to
arrive on time?

Dakota arrived at school at 7:59 a.m. He left at

2:33 p.m. How long was Dakota at school?
Thank you!

Guided Activities (Students will try to answer the given problem)

Instruction: answer the following.

How long does each event last in the inter-school

competition?

You can use any method.

Relay – 6:30 am to 8:15 am

Swimming – 5:45 am to 10:24 am

Badminton – 9:15 am to 11:45 am

Tennis – 1:10 pm to 3:30 pm

Basketball – 4:20 pm to 8:42 pm

Generalization
That’s Great! By means of knowing how to get (Students giving their thoughts)
the elapsed time we are also being aware on how
to manage our time and how to value our time.

Understood?
Yes teacher.

Good! Do you have any question?

None teacher.
Application

Instruction: Solve for the elapsed time and

answer the questions below.
