LEARNING EPISODE 4 PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST

Instructions

What five problems have you identified from the words that you have encircled? Make a statement. Write in the space
below.

The problems I identified are:

1. Classroom Size. Teacher cannot effectively teach every student in a classroom, if the class size exceeds about
30.
2. Reading Difficulty. A large number of students struggle with reading.
3. Connectivity. Poor internet connectivity jeopardizes many students' academic futures.
4. Motivation. A lack of motivation results in no progress.
5. Comprehension. Poor comprehension will result from a lack of concentration while reading.

A. Notice

What have you noticed of the problem identified above? Can there be more than one solution to the problem? Explain.
The aforementioned issue has multiple solutions since depending on just one would not be sufficient to address it. Keep
in mind that any issue we go against has a set of viewpoints. Simply looking into the matter will reveal these answers.
Finding several solutions to the same issue requires creativity, adaptability, and innovation. It should always include
backup plans for solving issues since, for instance, a remedy could be effective in one class but not in another.

B. Analyze

Let us look into the following scenarios in the daily life of the teacher. This scenario might also be similar to the class you
have observed and noticed.

Scenario A: Miss Fely is grade four teachers in a typical elementary school. She has forty learners in her class. One half of
them cannot classify animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. She has been repeating the same science lesson for two
weeks, yet no progress was observed. This situation has been bothering Miss Fely.

Can you identify, Miss Fely’s problem?

Yes, of course. I found Miss Fely's problem to be that her students don't have a good understanding of vertebrates and
invertebrates. Her children are unable to classify animals using the aforementioned classification of animals, as was
indicated in the scenario that came before it.
Can you find a solution to solve her problems? Of course, yes. Give your two suggestions.

a. I might suggest to Miss Fely that she utilize charts with the animal categorization at the top, which will function as
the header. To help all pupils understand the distinctions between the two classes, the definition of each is followed by
some images of animals from the vertebrate and invertebrate groups. She may use charts and images to aid her
students in visualizing concepts. Additionally, her students may find it simpler to absorb material and draw connections
using that approach. In conclusion, Miss Fely can utilize a graphic to explain the difference between vertebrates and
invertebrates to her students.

b. I may also suggest Miss Fely to use a video presentation on the distinction between vertebrates and invertebrates.
Miss Fely should consider the fact that kids pick up a lot from what they observe. Additionally, it will make it simpler
for her to teach the lesson. I think that by using movies, she can get her fourth-graders' attention and help them analyze,
comprehend, and retain the information. It's important to keep in mind that merely talking about vertebrates and
invertebrates won't help the children grasp them, therefore it would be excellent if she utilized a video presentation,
since youngsters in this grade level need a presentation to help them learn.

What solution can solve Miss Fely’s problem?

The utilization of video presentations with substance on the subject, out of the two options I gave Miss Fely, I think is
most likely to help her. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then video may be worth a million or more. Here are
some advantages of video-based learning: adds life to the e-learning course by making it effective and interesting;
increases student involvement and participation; reduces cognitive overload; and maximizes retention. I believe pupils
at that grade level will find it amusing to watch videos because she teaches fourth graders, and I am sure that this
approach will solve Miss Fely's problem.

How?

By really implementing the solution. She must first choose videos suited for fourth-graders. She then has to check the
material to make sure there are no violent videos that are improper for pupils to watch. She must also discuss the
subject in detail and deliver the videos to the class. She will thus need to recall and reinforce the lesson's main elements
towards the conclusion of the presentation.

Are they matched with the problem? Yes, I do think so. The options I suggested before address Miss Fely's condition.
The remedies offered deal with Miss Fely's problem of her students' lack of comprehension of their topic on vertebrates
and invertebrates. Additionally, as the suggested approach calls for the use of charts and educational videos, among
other visual and auditory elements, these would help the teacher in elaborating on the subject with her students.
Generally speaking, this would make it simpler for her students to absorb knowledge and draw connections between
the resources offered on their topic.

Scenario B: Sir Ryan teaches in a disadvantaged urban community. Most of his learners come from families that are
disrupted, either with single parents or with their guardians who stand only as parents. They are deprived of the necessary
food, clothing and shelter.

Can you identify the most probable teaching-learning problem/s in the class of Sir Ryan?

a. Given that the majority of Sir Ryan's students come from broken families with less time and parental involvement,
this would be the most likely cause of a teaching-learning problem in his class.
b. Poor attendance and low student motivation may also be a problem since kids in urban communities with
disadvantages sometimes lack access to basic necessities like food, clothes, and housing, which has a detrimental effect
on their interest in learning.

Can you propose a solution to solve one of the problems that you have identified?

One of the greatest ways to address the issues of poor attendance and low student motivation, in my opinion, is to
make students and parents responsible for frequent and unjustified absences. Additionally, he must implement a rigid
attendance policy that addresses the problem of frequent absences. Sir Ryan is required to deliver inspirational sayings,
tales, or films every day before the class discussion starts. His learners will be inspired by these factors to respect
education and understand that their current circumstances are temporary. He has to show his students that there are
several examples of people who overcame adversity to achieve fame and fortune, and that if they are driven to learn,
they too can.

C. Reflect

After reading the two scenarios given above, how would identifying problematic situations and finding solutions to
these problems help you to become a better teacher?

• Identifying problematic situations and finding solutions to these problems helps me to become attentive to
recognizing problematic situations. As a future teacher, I must be attentive to recognize problematic situations.
How? Enabling oneself to focus on the details of what is occurring around me. By improving my ability to
attentively look at and observe in challenging classroom situations and come up with workable solutions, I'll
eventually become a better teacher. In addition, it helps me develop and understand the issues that situations
that arise in classrooms regularly.

D. Write Action Research Prompts

Using any one example of problems in this activity, answer the AR prompts that follow:

1. OBSERVE

What problematic situation prevails in the classroom?

• Accessibility, participation, home life, and social status are all major sources of difficulty in the classroom and may
all have an effect on how well teachers and students are able to teach and learn. According to scenario two, Sir
Ryan's students also came from a low-income metropolitan area, with the most of them coming from
dysfunctional homes. There is a chance that they are not paying attention to every lesson that instructor Ryan is
teaching, that there are more students dropping out, that there are more students absent, and that they are
uninterested in the lessons.

2. REFLECT

What changes do you want to achieve?

• I want to start by giving students a purposeful teaching-learning experience while simultaneously engaging in
social interaction with them. Second, I want them to take part in all activities and understand that there is support
and hope out there for them. Third, I want them to know and believe that I will do everything in my power to
help them succeed. I also want them to know that I will do everything in my power to help them perform better
and have a more fulfilling educational experience. Lastly, I want for individuals to take a different perspective and
have confidence in their capacity to change for the better, for themselves.

3. PLAN

What strategies will you use to improve the situation?

• I want to visit them at their residence regularly in order to get to know them personally and build a good
relationship with their parents in to improve the current situation. I will be flexible and sympathetic. I will arrange
a conference with the parents and create an organization called the "Parents-Teacher Partnership." It should be
possible for parents and students to voice their worries. I will present myself as a role model to capture their trust
since I am a firm believer that fostering a positive attitude in the classroom starts with me. And because praising
pupils for their great conduct is an easy yet effective approach to push them to accomplish their best, I will
reinforce and reward positive actions. I believe these strategies will assist students in meeting all of their needs
and bringing them to the classroom. Although I am aware that it is challenging, if the parents and the teacher are
working for the same objectives and moving in the same direction, it will all be rewarding in the end.

4. ACT

What would be the title of your Action Research should you conduct the study?

The title of the study would be "Impact of Parental Involvement on Learner's Academic Performance."
