FILM ANALYSIS
GUIDE QUESTIONS:
•What are the pertinent issues dealt with in the movie? (not less than 100 words
and not more than 200 words)

There are many issues present in the movie. First is the right of the patient to decide.
On Anna's part, her autonomy is being restricted by her parents by donating some parts
of her organ to Kate, her older sister suffering leukemia without her permission. As
Kate's mother does everything in her power to save her, the act of beneficence is also
being addressed. Another issue is non maleficence, or doing no harm, as being
connected on beneficence, as the mother is focused everything for the good of Kate,
she is neglecting the feeling of Anna, feeling used and treated as an object without
knowing that she is hurting her already. And lastly, the act of justice. Anna pursued and
succeeded in carrying out in order to regain control and legal ownership of her body.
We learn from this film that it's important to hear and respect all viewpoints. On the
mother's side, she simply did all she could to save her daughter, who was battling a
severe illness, and Anna has every right to her body and life, even if she is a minor. The
law, her parents, or neither of them can take that away. This film teaches us to value
our children more, to consider how each choice may have an effect to their feelings and
emotions. We have to bear in mind that every human being is entitled to have every
right and decision in life.
•Choose a specific decision that you agree with and prove why. ( not less than
100 words and not more than 200 words)
The specific decision I agree with is when Kate is telling Anna to press with the case as
she wants Anna to have her life and also to rest. Kate had a hard time living because of
her illness, not only it affects her life but also her family, especially Anna, who is
donating organs for her that is in greater risk if she donated her kidney as it would
complicate her health. I wholeheartedly support Kate’s decision, she was tired and is
now willing to rest in peace as she is ready to be with God, it is sad truly but we have to
respect the patient's wishes. Kate in a very short time lived in so much pain, she
experienced loss when her beloved pass away due to the same illness she is suffering.
Despite that, her family is there supporting her, loving her to the most and taking
beyond limits to save her. I cannot imagine being in her situation as it is very hard, she
is one strong girl who fought the hard fight and is now resting in peace with the love of
her family and her beloved in heaven, together at last.
