Objectives:

Final Project of Post Graduate Diploma of Supply Chain Management is aimed at applying knowledge
gained during studies to an actual business situation. As a result of this exercise, you will not only create
a valuable business document but in the process, you will also develop expertise in pragmatic approach
of analyzing a problem and solving it in a commercial organization.

This project is of six credit hours or equivalent to two taught courses. This project is a part of studies in
most of the masters’ courses globally and this may help you in getting admission in a master’s Program
anywhere in the world. This will also enhance your practical knowledge base which will help you in job
interviews if you are planning to switch or being interviewed internally for promotion.

Please go through the details about this project available on the website of NED University. It has been
shared on your WhatsApp group as well. This project will be done individually by each student. Please
note that original work is expected in this project. Plagiarism is considered a serious offense not only in
NED university but all over the world.

Final Requirements:

3. Power Point slides of the project
4. Final project should be in MS Word Format in 12 font Times New Roman with proper header and
footer.
5. Presentation of the project in front of three teachers at NED University nominated by DG NED
Academy. Students living abroad may present on Meet with camera on. Presentation will be of
fifteen minutes followed by half an hour question answer session. Question answer session may
be longer than allocated time.

Project:

You need to select a medium to large size commercial organization (means NGOs and NPOs are excluded),
preferably with manufacturing as a major activity and playing the role of channel master in the virtual
organization. Having one or more acquaintances at middle or senior level management position in the
organization will help you in business discussion and information gathering. This project will be carried
out specifically in the perspective of Supply Chain Management.

Scope:

As discussed above this project will be limited to application of knowledge gained during course work in
an actual business situation. In the following text we are providing you specific guidelines for the project
so that you may complete it with clarity of mind within given time frame. You are required to answer
following questions about the organization to complete your project.
1. Background:
a. Write introduction of the company, specifically how it started and grew till date. Some
description of revenue and profit growth YoY, major projects executed, and asset base of the
organization is desirable.
b. Draw an organizational structure and comment on it critically. Description of culture,
leadership style and business strategies being pursued will be helpful.

2. Supply Chain:
a. Draw a detailed organizational structure of supply chain of the organization.
b. Draw a diagram highlighting from supplier to end user and define roles of each member
company of the chain.
c. Is a proper customer relationship management system being followed in the
organization? Critically evaluate.
d. What quality management system the company is following?
e. How production is being managed in the organization? Are they efficient or responsive?
Where they stand on the line of strategic fit?
f. Write a note on the value chain of the company including channel members.
g. How IT system is being used in the company? Is this IT system interfaced with partners?
h. Write a note on the existing training system in the supply chain department.

3. Logistics:
a. How is customer service designed to fulfill customer orders? How many warehouses they
have at various locations? What facilities are available in those warehouses?
b. What KPIs are being followed by the company internally and for external member of the
virtual organization?
c. How is logistics cost managed using various trade-offs?
d. Draw the order fulfillment process and explain it briefly.
e. Compare the order fulfillment process with the SCOR model and give your comments.
f. What modes of transportation are in use in the network and how it is being managed?

4. Inventory Management:
a. How finished goods inventory is being managed?
b. Are they using push or pull for inventory movement? Which member of the channel is
holding the most inventory and why?

5. Procurement:
a. How lead time is being managed in the procurement of raw material?
b. Do they have any classification system of handling procurement of various input
materials?
c. How they select suppliers and negotiate with them? Is there a system of supplier
relationship management? Please explain comparing it with SCOR model.
6. Contract Management:
a. Briefly explain existing contract management system of the organization.
b. What is the mechanism of conflict resolution in the virtual supply chain?
c. Do they have system of expectations management, classifications and KPIs for vendors?

7. Strategic Areas:
a. Are they working on agile supply chain management? How demand fluctuation is being
managed?
b. How is company performing in the areas of sustainable supply chain and CSR?
c. Is supply chain of the company a source of strategic advantage currently?
d.
8. Recommendations:

In the light of your study, please write down your recommendations and ideas for improvement in
the performance of the company in the following areas:

a. Suggest areas of improvement in the supply chain strategy.


b. How can the company make supply chain a source of competitive advantage?
c. What are possible areas of improvement in the supply chain management structure?
d. Propose new structure of the supply chain and justify your proposed structure.
e. Recommend improvements in CRM, quality management and production systems.
f. How value chain of the supply chain can be improved?
g. Propose an IT system to replace the existing system with implementation plan.
h. Suggest improvements in order fulfillment process.
i. Develop new KPIs for customer service, procurement, production, warehouse
management, inventory management, order fulfillment and distribution management.
j. Propose an efficient Transport Management System for the organization.
k. What improvements are possible in raw material and finished goods inventory
management system?
l. Suggest an improved SRM for the company.
m. Develop KPIs to manage suppliers.
n. How contracts management system can be improved in the company?
o. What are the training needs of the employees working at different levels in the supply
chain department? Also describe training needs of suppliers and distributors.
p. Develop a training calendar for trainings of employees, suppliers and distributors.
q. Suggest guidelines for agile supply chain management system
r. What improvements can be suggested in the areas of sustainability?
